I'm a proud owner of a 2000 Midnight Blue with no mod's... yet.
I've been looking for the sweetest pup's for my ears and it comes down to Fender SCN or Fender '54.

This is my first electric guitar that my father gave to me as a birthday present after college graduation. So, one more reason to love my MIM Startocaster

Will never sell it!

Wow Magnatone! That looks even more awesome with the gold hardware. Anyway, I thought I could add my own avatar but I guesss you have to use one from the list the forum has. This is the one I want to use.

I'm new to the forum, and have a question about my MIM Strat headstock. I have a 2000-2001 MIM Strat and on the front of the headstock it says Fender Stratocaster, Made in Mexico, and lists MZ0xxxxxx as the serial number. (Sorry, don't have time to post a pic right now.)

Anyway, I've noticed that the newer MIM Strats don't have Made in Mexico, or the serial number on the front of the headstock. Does anyone know when this change was made? I'm just curious.

I apologize if someone has already asked this question. But, I've searched the forum and didn't see this topic.

Thanks.

Welcome to the Forum Dnadmeyer,I too have an '00 Strat,I'm unsure what year they made the change over but I'm sure if you posted the question as a new topic in the lounge section you'd get a prompt answer as the postings and action on this particular thread has fallen off lately. If you used a heading like -When was the MIM logo moved to the Back? or something to that effect you'd get an answer in minutes.Aren't MIM Strat's great?I have 2 and an MIM Tele also-love them.

The headstock change was made in 2009.

Here's a link that lists the other cosmetic changes that were made in 2009.

Thanks for the info john; that link is really helpful.

And guitslinger, you're right, I think that MIM Strats are great as well. For the money, I don't think you can find a better guitar. It sounds great, and plays very smoothly. It's my favorite of my guitars. Plus, you always have the option of making improvements (hardware, pickups, etc.) along the way.

I've got a 50th anniversary edition Aztec Gold MIM strat with some vintage pickups and a v-shape maple neck, this thing sings, i took off the reflective gold pickgaurd though and replaced it with a white one, i love the gold on gold hardware but the pick gaurd was a little much for my taste. But this thing is just amazing to play. sounds great.

I've always wanted that baby because I have the American and the American Deluxe from the same period. I glad to hear you enjoy it! I've never had the opportunity to play it but looks really sweet to me. I had forgotten about the soft V neck! I'll keep looking!

I believe you call two from a series a brace?... what do you call three of a series? ... a trace?

Been playing since the early 60's and finally bought my first Strat! WOW!

'08 MIM Standard. Bought it "brand new", but it had been hanging around the store for a couple of years and no one wanted it. It's chrome red but it had a pale mint green pick guard, which apparently no one liked. So the store put in a black pearl pickguard and swapped the bridge pickup for a Duncan Hot Rails, and added some graphite string saver saddles.

I had originally gone in to buy a Squier Classic Vibe 50's Strat, but they didn't have one. While pondering on what to do, this lonely little strat and I bonded. They made me an offer I couldn't refuse, so I took it home, set it up, and I can't seem to put it down!

The jury is still out on the Hot Rails, though. I find myself playing mostly off the single coil settings - the hot rails being quite aggressive - while I am mostly into vintage tones. May replace the hot rails with a single coil.

My question: what do other MIM owners feel about the stock pups? How do they compare to some of the more popular "upgrades"? I like the sound of the two that are on the guitar, so wonder if I should just buy an original bridge pup, or upgrade the whole set. If it's possible to sound even better, I'm ready to go for it. Have considered Toneriders, but open to suggestions.

Thanks
