Here's my MIM, which I recently bought back from a shop after not having it for close to a year. Started out life as a burgundy color, which I had repainted to Alpine White with a gun metal stripe.

Here she is with the MIA brethren ('97 Plus & '91 Standard)

Excited about the new babies, haven't had time to dig in yet.

will post pix when the 50th anniversary 57 RI MIM Gold, maple neck with 50s golden yellow stain, with gold anodized pickgaurd and gold hardware is in my hands..

I just acquired a lightly used '08/'09 (tracking serial number/ month year of production info) 62 RI MIM candy apple red, rosewood board, 3 ply pickgaurd. Minus the neck skunk stripe, looks like new.

I went to purchase the 60s candy apple red RI and as I was paying for this one, the shop owner directed my attention to a 50s MIM that was gold. I told him, throw that one in back for me too...

the 50s MIM plays sweet. The 60s MIM needs only a minor adjustment on the bridge, otherwise that one looks and plays sweet too.

I fell for the MIM's when I thought about all the years I've been playing and wanting certain color combos on strats and knew that realistically I was never going to be able to afford MIA 50s or 60s strats.

My future MIM is going to be a 50s telecaster so I can stop gigging with my '55 tele :)

while I'm in the thread, can anyone point me in the direction, if anyone is compiling this info, to find info regarding production numbers of the various MIM reissues, etc.
on various auction websites, I've seen plenty of MIM, but no 50s or 60s RI MIM as of yet for sale.
I am limited in my knowledge of the various MIM strats, etc, thus am wondering if the MIM reissues were sold as higher quality instruments (different pickups, hardware, etc) vs. a standard MIM strat, as the MIA vintage series are vs. the MIA standards, etc.

no matter what, I'm sold on the MIM and do not plan on parting with these new kids anytime soon :)

thanks,
steve

can someone kindly direct me to a thread or link that can help with the date/month/year switch, body and neck serial numbers i.d. on an MIM strat?
here they are in case someone reading this knows:

neck: MO1806060
body: MO185138
a small red circular sticker with CAR (for candy apple red)
the neck pocket has stamped number: 70950
switch selector has 51993 and 0826

this is an '08 or '09 MZ8192XXX serial number what appears to be a 60's classic reissue.

thanks...
steve

I own a few MIM Strats, My favorite overall is a 2009 Road Worn 60s in Olympic White. Looks like the Custom Shop Relic, for a lot less. Nitro paint on the body, Tex-Mex pickups, classic 60s look. I replaced the bridge with a new Callaham "distressed" bridge. I also put on a full pick guard shield and eliminated the pot connecting wires soldered to the back of the pots (ground loop). I put a base-plate on the bridge pickup and soon had to file and dress the fret ends on the neck. Now, everyone who has played it says that it has the most authentic vintage Strat sound and feel of any guitar they have ever played. I have to agree with them, it has the best sound of all of my Strats, including the US made. :o I hope I do the links to the pics right. If not, I will try again. :)

I'm not surprised that this thread has grown so much and continues to keep growing with new members to the club. 8)

Hello all, I am new the the forum here. I am a Mexican Stratocaster owner. Bought mine brand new. Pretty sure its a 1996 "Traditional" Fat Strat completely stock. Has the 50 years decal on the back of the head. Love this guitar. It could use better tuners though. My other guitar is on the back of the rack it is a Fender 220SCE Bubinga. Beautiful guitar.Image
