I like sunbursts with tortoiseshell pickguards, the white doesn't do too much for me. But it is indeed pretty.

Mike, that thing is beautiful. I hope it plays as great as it looks

How good are the mexican ?? i own a MIA HSS .

so im in the market for a new strat .. im really thinking about the mexican HSS.

my point are :

- Be it american or mexican .. im gonna have to switch the string gauge to .46 and bring it to my luthier for a complete set up .

- be it american or mexican .. im gonna put a seymour duncan jeff beck humbucker on it .

so be it mexican or american which are a price gap of near 600-700 .. im gonna modded it and add a few dollars .

if i buy the mexican im probably gonna throw a set of locking tuners on it . :)

should i go with the mexican i saw at 350 $ or an american standard at 999 $

lets just add that im no "purist " i play mostly punk rock and high gain stuff ... so im not looking for "that strat sound " . im buying strat cause i like the feleing of th eneck and playability .

shoudl i go mexican ?? is the playability bad over the american ??

I have a 93 MIM Strat, and I am absolutely in love with it! I have 9 other guitars and I barely remember what they look like, LOL! I have heard that there are minor differences (i.e. wood type, hardware) but I have no complaints with my MIM. I really couldn't justify the price between the two. I think I can make a MIM sound like a MIA with my current skill level so there's no point in spending the extra dough on a MIA...to me it's not just worth it. I really think if you have to spend cash, I'd invest in a MIM Strat and spend the cash you save on a really good amplifier.

I've never played an american to be honest, but I know my mexican is wonderful. It plays and sounds great, and you can buy a mexican and spend the money you save on new pups, bridge, etc and STILL come in at cheaper than an american.

Here are my two My in Mexico Fenders The strat has a custom wound Wolfetone "Zorn Custom" Humbucker installed in the Bridge position and two Wolfetone Single coils I have to install. They are the best pickups I have ever heard. I have a few other guitars including a Squier Vintage Modified 70's Jazz and I am currently looking for another MIM Strat a sunburst/Maple Fingerboard SSS Strat.

Just got my new 2008 MIM Standard Strat. Electron blue with maple fretboard. Great tone, plays well and has better sustain than I would have expected.
It was $400 CDN. $150 less than the 2010 standards.
The store tag said it was an 'upgrade'. Anyone have a clue what this means?

I have a 2008 MIM in sunburst with a rosewood fretboard. Updates include Texas Specials, an "add bridge pup" mini toggle, and full copper shielding with star grounding. I also sanded the finish away between the neck and the body and also under the bridge. Its all bare wood under there now. The add bridge switch was a really good mod - it makes it like a S1 model. It was really simple to do and well worth it. I really dig this guitar. It plays like a dream and stays in tune. And, of course, it sounds good too, especially now that I have the Texas Specials in there.

I have a 2005 mim strat.
Here's what i 've done to it:

Sperzel locking tuners
graphite string tree
bone nut
Dimarzio virtual vintage p/u's
calaham trem block & saddles
Vintage nos pots & capacitors.

This guitar ROCKS!!!!
I'd put it up against almost any strat out there.

Just curious, does anyone here NOT modify their MIM Strat? As far as I'm concerned my 2009 Strat is fine the way it is, the only mod i've made so far is Straplocks, I may (but most likley won't) change out the plastic bits (pickguard, etc.). Seems to me people are posting how much they love their MIM, then proceed to list all the changes they've made. I guess what I'm asking is, which comes first, the mods or the love? :)

I'm waiting to take delivery of my MIM Standard Strat and Frontman 25R from Sweetwater. Should be here tomorrow. :D

I haven't played in 20 years (the Strat and amp were a 56th birthday present to myself), so I am basically starting from scratch. :(

I plan on blocking the tremolo and taking it from there. 8)

Well, I loved MIM Deluxe Players Strat until the Selector Switch started to loose it's positions and the Tremolo Arm Screw Hole stripped out. Now it has all new Wilkinson Trem, Pots, Caps, Wire, and a Swell New Treble Bleed Circuit.

I was perfectly happy with it up 'till then, but let me tell you about now...

Now it has the same Pot used in MIA Strats and after market (but still fender) caps. I had no Idea just how Powerful the Vintage Noiseless Pickups were until now. Less than $90 worth of stuff made a Huge Improvement on an Instrument that I didn't think needed any improvement, and only $36 of that was electronics. It sounds better than an MIA Standard now.

My MIM is still bone stock. Be mindful however that bone stock in this case is a Powerhouse Stratocaster so it had some OEM goodies right from the get-go!
