after Miami Mikes suggestion of making a Mexico Strat users club i have now done it!!

so what MIM strat do you own, and wath are your toughts about it?

im the proud owner of an 2006 Sunburst Strat with RW-freatboard
bought it last summer absolutely love it!!

Mine is a '96 MIM Standard that my wife purchased for me brand new in 1996. When she first got it for me, I had some mixed feelings about it. I had been looking at this one as well as a '57 RI (or something similar) and while the other Strat sounded incredible and had a wonderful tobacco burst finish, I really didn't care for the way if felt at all. With my MIM I really didn't care for the Lake Placid Blue and the pickups were...well....quite cheezy, but I simply loved the way the instrument felt...so that's the one we got.

Over the years I've made many mods to her...the first thing to be changed was the pups. I did have some Fender VN's in there for a while but this last summer I went with some Duncans...wonderful sound now (far better than the other Strat I was looking at at the time). Secondly I replaced the trem block with one of those heavy steel blocks from Callaham...a mod I whole-heartedly recommend to ANY MIM owner! Talk about a difference in sustain!!!!! I've also gone with an LSR roller nut, roller string T's, steel bridge saddles and black face cosmetics. Over the years even the Lake Placid Blue has started to grow on me.

Very simply, now that I've done all of this work she really is one of the best sounding and certainly one the best playing instruments I've ever seen. I'd put her against an Am Std any day of the week! Personally before I'd -ever- fork out $1000+ for an Am Std, I'd get another MIM and do the work myself...they're just great instruments with a tremendous amount of potential.

Of course, here's a pic...

Peace,
Jim

i like this one

Ich bin so froh

2007 (based on serial number) MIM Strat in Arctic white. My first electric. My wife gets jealous of it sometimes. :)

I also have a Nashville made Gibson Les Paul Special and while I love it just as much, if push came to shove and I could only keep one guitar, it'd be this Strat.

mim classic 60's Olympic white

serial is MZ0203084 so that's either a 2000-2001.

bought it at the small music store where i worked in 2003-04. i paid $500 Australian plus a marshall mg30dfx trade in.

1 tone pot shaft snapped off, trem thread is stripped inside the hole, crack under neck joint plate, paint chipped on neck pocket, discoloration/blemish underneath paint on the corners/contours

thats all happened since i owned it, except the neck plate crack, and its not as if i treat it rough or anything.

i cant decide whether to get a classic 70's or 50's in olympic white/sunburst or a mim standard in candy apple red, lake placcid blue, arctic white or sunburst.

they are all great guitars.

The fender classic series 50s stratocaster is MIM. Does anyone know the year they were first introduced?

MIM Standard Strat - just bought it in Jan of this year. Midnight Wine / maple. The model # starts with 013 - not sure what year it is? Can anyone tell me? 2006 / 2007? Thanks.

WOW -that was fun. Thanks!

You're welcome. I think it's time to search for a more recent tour.
It would be fun to see Mexican Relicing in Action, eh?

The "013" in the model number means it was made in Mexico, but you'll have to check the serial number (and look inside the body routing) to get a date.

If you bought it in January 2009, it was probably made in 2008, unless it was old stock that has sat around for a while (which is possible at some music stores).

I've got an MZ2 and I love the guitar. The action is incredible and the stock pick ups are not bad. It's flawless and I only paid $350.00 for it!...Craig
