I have a black 2006 MIM with the hss configuration and rosewood fretboard. I replaced the neck pickup with a Dimarzio True Velvet because for some reason my stock neck pickup developed a really weak signal out of nowhere. I love my guitar and I plan on getting another black mim but with the sss configuration and maple fretboard.

Made in Mexico Fender Stratocaster owner here. I have 5 Fender MIM Stratocasters to date bought all 5 used, 4 off Craigslist or 1 off EBay and didn’t pay more than $200.00 for any of them and I got the 2006 Electron Blue Stratocaster for $139.00. I had to drive about 80 miles round trip but it was worth it. I was thinking about starting Fender Stratocaster Rescue and try to save all the abused, non taken care of and neglected Fender Stratocaster out there. Thanks

after Miami Mikes suggestion of making a Mexico Strat users club i have now done it!!

so what MIM strat do you own, and wath are your toughts about it?

im the proud owner of an 2006 Sunburst Strat with RW-freatboard
bought it last summer absolutely love it!!

Mine is a '96 MIM Standard that my wife purchased for me brand new in 1996. When she first got it for me, I had some mixed feelings about it. I had been looking at this one as well as a '57 RI (or something similar) and while the other Strat sounded incredible and had a wonderful tobacco burst finish, I really didn't care for the way if felt at all. With my MIM I really didn't care for the Lake Placid Blue and the pickups were...well....quite cheezy, but I simply loved the way the instrument felt...so that's the one we got.

Over the years I've made many mods to her...the first thing to be changed was the pups. I did have some Fender VN's in there for a while but this last summer I went with some Duncans...wonderful sound now (far better than the other Strat I was looking at at the time). Secondly I replaced the trem block with one of those heavy steel blocks from Callaham...a mod I whole-heartedly recommend to ANY MIM owner! Talk about a difference in sustain!!!!! I've also gone with an LSR roller nut, roller string T's, steel bridge saddles and black face cosmetics. Over the years even the Lake Placid Blue has started to grow on me.

Very simply, now that I've done all of this work she really is one of the best sounding and certainly one the best playing instruments I've ever seen. I'd put her against an Am Std any day of the week! Personally before I'd -ever- fork out $1000+ for an Am Std, I'd get another MIM and do the work myself...they're just great instruments with a tremendous amount of potential.

Of course, here's a pic...

Peace,
Jim

Speaking of Mexican Strats. Here's some info.

The necks on the MIM Strats haven't been made in the US for a couple of years now. Check out this 2006 photo-factory-tour of both the Ensenada and Corona factories. In the first set of photos from Ensenada, you will see the Mexican Neck Factory, where the necks are crafted from raw blanks.

http://picasaweb.google.com/meridianmus ... ryTour2006

You will also see pictures that show that the Mexican bodies can be glued up out of quite a few pieces of wood. Bodies intended for see-through finishes use veneers (applied and pre-contoured from the wood supplier).

WOW -that was fun. Thanks!
