96 MIM Jimmy Vaughan (or what became the JV, I think they started calling it that in 97), black with coffee pearloid guard, bridge P/U replaced with gold lace sensor (probably going to be unreplaced... previous owner had it changed and gave me the original). Plays like a dream...

just so anybody else with a plain-ole gitar dont feel bad, I got a black 2003 basic mim strat from the pawnshop for $100, pretty banged up but the neck is smooth and it plays niiiiiice. I must have a hole in my head cuz I came home with an identical '94 model one for more than twice that today, I guess cuz this one is spotless and had a nice (though not fender) hardshell case. Now me and my kid got matching strats, it's fun just puttin em next to each other and trading licks. The '94 has a more nicely-grained neck which is getting that darker tint to the finish, but maybe the wood's shrunk up a bit cuz the frets are sticking out compared to the '03, which is pretty good in that respect. I set em both up the way I like em, and I think the 03 sounds a tiny bit better too, but I bet if I was blindfolded I couldn't tell.

I'll never be horribly proud or excessively in love with these, I think.... but goldangit they are fun, and I can rely on them to do an adequate job at any venue.... let the guitar snobs roll their eyes all they want!!

Just got my 2008-2009 MIM HSS and it is very sweet. One big noticeable change from the 07 is the rolled frets. Take an older MIM and run your hand down the side of the neck and you might take some meat off, but on this newer model, that has been corrected. Seems like the neck is tented yellow, ever so slightly for just the smallest hint of "vintage"--just right. Mine is the Brown Sunburst: I haven't been too happy with the grain on some of the older ones, and I don't know if this is universal (better select wood?) but the grain is better pronounced--quite a looker. Oh, and the tone controls actually work! The humbucker is just a touch thin, and the switch in the second position (bridge & mid pickup) turns to humbucker to single coil for that classic strat tone--however, I think I'm going to put a switch in the keep the bucker on for a little more meat in the rock tone. Overall, I've very pleased.

I hav a 2003/04 MIM Stratocaster! It has a satin finish! It's red with a black pick guard, black pickups, black knobs and has a rosewood fretboard! I'm gonna put a set of Seymour Duncan Hotrails in it! This year I'm hoping to get another MIM Stratocaster, either a Sunburst Classic Player 60's Stratocaster or a Black Classic Series 60's Stratocaster which I will make a Janick Gers (Iron Maiden guitarist for those who don't know that) Tribute Model! Either one I'll be happy with and which ever one I get will get Seymour Duncan JB Jrs in the neck and bridge position!

About a year old MIM, standard, I just changed the pick guard and got Texas Specials, neat twangy sound.

The one on the right is a Canadian Dealers Limited Edition MIM Fat Strat with EMGs, the one on the left is a MIJ neck in some sort of strat style body and Tex Mex P/Ups, I put it together off the bay.

There is a club for people who bought Mexican made guitars? No one ever told me in 40 years of working on and playing guitars that someday an offshore made guitar would have that sort of fan support. Wow!
