Hey bluestube,

Here's a pic of my MIM '50s strat.

Image

I placed a Fender Vintage bridge w/ steel block in and what a difference from that crappy zinc block. I can feel sweet vibrations in the body when picking the D, A, and E strings which I never felt with the zinc, now that's an improvement if I've ever felt one.

Take care all.

I think you did the right thing regarding the bridge, That is a fine looking MIM!! 8)

Scallopped!! Do you like it? I've heard guitars like the Yngwie Strat can be harder on the hands.

Steve,
It is no harder on the hands. Actually I only did it to be able to play barre chords more easily and it does accomplish this nicely. I have a "tirck" index finger on my left hand. It does not require near as hard a touch as a regualr fretboard. I have heard that scalloping allows for faster playing -by those that can move ther fingers fast enough.

Plus, I wanted to experiment, much like the fretless one I did...just to see what it was like.

I would think it would be easier to play since you wouldn't have to push down so hard. The only reason I ask is that I heard from a guy who had the Yngwie model that it hurt his hands. I've never actually played one myself.

It is easier to play since there isn't as much pressure required.
I guess if one doesn't have much in the way of callus buildup it could be rougher to play fo rthe first week or so.

So I finally purchased a fender strat after playing my fair share of crap guitars for the past 12 years or so. I went with the 2008 MIM standard in arctic white with a maple fretboard. I just love the necks on this particular model. I went in to the store already expecting to upgrade the pickups to either some texas specials or hot noiseless but after cranking the stock strat on my original peavey 5150 I have changed my mind. This guitar is great. I am still considering getting some fender schaller locking tuners though. Just ordered some mint green pickup covers for my new love. Maybe I will post some pics up soon. Just wanted to say hi to everybody in the forum. Now I have a reason to login.
