This is my Red and black MIM Fender Stratocaster. Unfortunately I don't know the year, I know it's after 2000 because it has a 'Z' in the serial number. I bought this second hand from my friend in February this year. It's amazing. Better than most American Stratocasters I've played, in my opinion.

duplicate post, but...

My baby! Her name is Meximelt. Both in honor of her MIM heritage, the amount of mods she has (hence "melt"), Taco Bell Meximelts, which I lived on for years, and the band southern culture on the skids, where I got the idea for the name from their surf rock song, "meximelt"

Just got back my new MIM strat. Don't know how to play it very well yet. I love the way it looks and as I say to friends "if I could dry hump sound out of it I would an amazing player." Completely stock just a black pickguard added.

Here's mine. It's a 2008 with a DiMarzio Super Distortion 3 in the bridge. It has the Highway 1 neck and middle pups along with the Greasebucket circuit and a CRL 3 way Lever switch. The quality of the MIM'S are pretty damn good compared to earlier ones. I was surprised how well the fret work was on mine when I tried it out. These are great guitars with the new improvements from the factory. The electronics are CRL switches and CTS brass shaft pots. If they put better pups in it would truly be worth more. For $400 you can't beat 'em.

I just scored a 2003/2004 Standard HSS off of Ebay this weekend.
I know that Fender upgraded these this past year or so with different sized frets, etc.
I was wondering if anyone knew whether the necks are the same on these older versions and the upgrade?
I have a HWY1 also, and I've gotten so used to the jumbo frets and rosewood neck, its taking a little adjustment to get in tune with vintage frets, maple neck, and (I think?) a "modern C Shape" neck.
Well, either way, the neck is fast. The pickups are ceramic, I believe, and I know that ceramics take a lot of criticism. I've got Duncan alnicos in my HWY1, and they are sweet. But the quack on position 2 and 4 on this guitar is really something- sounds like Clapton's solo in "After Midnight" (OLD version). These pups will probably go at some point when I get some time to look around and save some $$$! I'm over spending big cash on pups - I want to see how good I can get this thing to sound on the cheap!
I got this guitar specifically to mod out and experiment with different pup combinations. Just learning some tech skills, so maybe a new nut, too...but hey, it's all working fine as it is!
There is no shielding as far as I can tell, which is odd, so I'll have to do that. Little noisy. I'll probably swap out the pots, also. The tone nobs are a little wanky, but nothing a new pot wouldn't fix.
The humbukcer is good and crunchy and loud.
I'll probably throw some Guitar Fetish pups in there at some point, or maybe route for a humbucker in the neck (It's HSS routed). Or get a rails pup for the bridge. Aaah, choices! I've got a traditional strat with a vintage tone, so I want to work on this one a bit, try different pups, etc.
It stays in tune real well once I got some good strings on it. Missing the trem arm, but that's Ebay for ya! Ordered one, and hope it fits. I was trying to use my HWY1 trem arm, and it seemed too low to the body of the guitar, but I could use it on a basic level. Damned thing stayed in pretty good tune with the bone nut and vintage trem! How about that?!?! :D
Again, I was thinking I'd have to upgrade this, but so far so good for some Gilmour styled trem use (won't be able to do any VH or Vai, though).
This is my first Mexi Strat. My only other experiences with Fender have been with Japanese models. Unfortunately sold my Japanese Squier back in early 90's, as well as a kool Japanese HSS with Floyd. Man, that was dumb. Kids, don't every sell your guitars - you never know when they'll become "vintage"!!!!
Very kool guitar for the price. No regrets, this is a good quality guitar, just needs a little TLC with the soldering iron and some new electronics.
Sorry this is a long post, just wanted to lay out some info on this model since I've been having a hard time finding specs now that Fender's upgraded this model. If anyone has more info to share, please send it along to me.
Cheers to the Fender Mexi Strat owners!
