Hey,
I traded an Ibanez SZ for my MIM strat with a few upgrades. I have the Schaller locking tuners with the staggered posts, so I removed the string tree. I also have a Duncan Performer in the bridge ( the jury is still out on this mod, I may put the original back in there). I took it over to my guitar guy and let him do his magic on the set up with the Elixier 10's I like to play.
I can't put this thing down. I leave it on the stand and it calls me from across the room. Sounds great through any amp I use and no effects are really required, stays in tune, and inspires me to play some of the most wicked assed nasty blues you'll ever want to hear. You know the kind where after you're finished, you kinda look around sheepishly to see if anyone was watching

I was playing it so hard one day, my kid said it looked like I was trying to strangle the guitar

i have a 1998 MIM Strat. Midnight Blue with a maple neck. Ive installed Fender Schaller locking tuners, LSR Roller Nut, Graph Tech FerraGlide Saddles, refinished and refretted the neck, and installed 3 seymour duncan pickups. This guitar blazes.

edit: also new string trees and a rear neck plate. just cosmetic crap but it counts i guess

I just joined the club hours ago. I have a friend who sold me the following:
60th Anniversary, black, HSS pickups, Floyd Rose Tremelo, locking tuners, perfect shape, rosewood fingerboard, tri-ply pickguard, sweet MIM Stratocaster. The protective film is'nt even off of the 60th diamond or pickguard! The best part is that I only had to pay him $240!

So now I am a Member of the MIM club! The things sounds great and the neck feels so nice. I think I lucked out on this one!

Well, heck, count me in! I've had my MIM Strat for a little over a year. '06 Standard black, white pickguard, rosewood fingerboard. Folks here have mentioned a 60th anniversary decal, mine's more of a metal "thing" stuck to the back of the headstock. I think I relayed the story of buying it somewhere else on here, but suffice to say I'm kind of a noob when it comes to guitars, and bought it without trying it out. I was originally planning on picking up a Squier, but got the Fender for dirt cheap. Joined the forums soon after, and read about getting the guitar set up. I kept putting it off, tried a few adjustments myself, and really enjoyed playing it. Finally took it in for a professional setup, the guy looked at it and asked me if the frets were cutting into my hand. "No, I just kind of keep them out of the way and they don't stick out that much". Anyway, what a difference the setup made! I enjoyed playing it before, but it was soooooooooooo much nicer properly done. Even with the extra cost of the setup, I think I got a great deal on my guitar. Of course, I did that about a month before I took off for Iraq, and now I'm pining for my Strat. I brought a Traveler electric with me, and it's great, but I want my Strat! Only a month to go!

I own a 1995 (possibly 1994)MIM Strat. 3-tone sunburst and maple fretboard. Stock. Bought it when I was 19 and knew very little about guitars. It's a really comfortable and playable guitar but soon I'll have to do something about the fret wear...

About the production year - can anyone tell me what year it was made? I've tried, but I can't find my particular serial no. anywhere on fender.com.

Serial: MN4137159

See? It has SIX digits after the initial #4 for 1994-1995. The ones listed at fender.com are supposed to have FIVE except the initial #4.

Weird.

N4 indicates 1994, but it could be early 1995 (it's got a high serial number after the 4). Have you looked under the pickguard or in the neck pocket? There could be stamps or stickers with the dates the neck, body & pickguard were made/assembled. The pots have date codes too.

Have fun with your screwdrivers. Hint: write down all of the numbers you find in the manual that came with it.

Another proud owner of MIM's, chiming in... :)

Let's see...I've got a Standard MIM that I had extra switching added on to...great for blues work.

And I've got my trusty old MIM HSS Fat Strat--extra switching installed, along with new pups (two Hot Vintage Noiseless SC's, and a Seymore Duncan Pearly Gates Plus bucker).

More than a few people have been vaguely disdainful of my babies...but I love my MIM's, yes I do...

Hello, everyone...

I was in Sam Ash over the Memorial Day weekend this year, actually looking for a new Telecaster. (I've been playing one of those for 38 years and I figured that it would be an easy transition...) I was looking at a Thinline, and a Custom when the Deluxe Player Strat caught my eye.

I decided to take it down and play it. I just liked the tone... My brother owns a Strat that he has owned since '71 or '72 I think. Anyway, to my ears, it sounded a little different than that. So, after a few hours I decided to take it home.

I know most of you have seen one before... But, what the heck!

Their "good value" ... that seems to be the main reason for most owners.
