Hey, thought I would join the club :)

-2005(2006?) Standard Strat
-Electron Blue
-Maple fretboard
-Stock everything
-Has a special edition sticker on back of the headstock(don't know why)

If I bought it new in December of '05, is it a 2005 or 2006 strat? Thanks in advance.

Hey Gang-

I am the proud owner of a 2000 MIM Stratocaster (Midnight Wine) I love it- it is my Baby. I often get surprised looks when players realize that this is a Mexican Strat- The Tone is great, especially out of my HRDeluxe. I am going to buy a Roadhouse Strat (MIM) next Month- I played one and I just love the sound of those Texas Specials-

Keep It Real-

I bought a sweet used 60th anniversary blizzard pearl MIM strat. it's freaking awesome! I've been playing an sg studio for a few years and the strat is amazing compared to it. It has awesome tex-mex pickups in it, and it screams the blues. yay strats!

Depends how much heavier. I would just bring the guitar to a tech to have it set-up for the new gauge; numerous adjustments will have to be made. (I'm not much of a hands-on guy)

Thanks again MikeT...on the drive home from work, i started thinking (never good) about this. i checked the bridge on the G string, lo and behold the little bugger had gotten itself pushed over to the side of the saddle (not sure if that's the right word for that one, but seems appropriate). i loosened the string a bit and just moved it to the center, so now that G string don't buzz anymore...problem solved.

the only bad thing is now.....i can't blame the twanging on anything but my crappy fingering...ahh well, i guess i'll just have to practice more. did i mention i have a very tolerant wife.

No problemo. Yeah, the string being caught on the side of the saddle could definitely be a problem... :)

BTW- what gauge strings are you running? Lighter gauges will get you a twangy sound while heavier gauges will giver you a fuller, fatter sound. But that also depends on the pups (I'm runnin' .12s with TX Specials on the MIA, gets me greta tone)...

they are factory strings, the super bullets... .009 - .0042 and the std pups on the HSS. i will probably pick up some heavier strings and give them a whirl as well, i'm sure they will enable me to play just like stevie ray(hehe).

but really, me being a beginner, if i can manage a clear sounding chord on any size string is a major breakthrough for me. and speaking of chords...how many freakin chords can there possibly be sheeesh.

i've been playing off and on for about a year, 5 months steady playing every week.

Once I put on some EB Super Slinky's my playing got much better. I just didn't like the feel of the Super Bullets.

Count me in! I've had myself a MiM Deluxe Players Strat here for about a year and a half. It's an amazing guitar. Extremely versatile and even comparable to some of the MiA strats.

Sign me up..........2008 MIM HSS. Sunburst. She's in the shop right now, getting set up, restrung, and being converted to a SSS.

Those pearl and shell pickguards I am seeing on the "brown" (looks amber to me) sunbursts on this thread sure have me thinking of upgrading from the white, since I will have to replace the pickguard during this little operation anyway.

Will post pics after post op and recovery.

like I said can't say enough good things about it. I'm new to the electric and it was a toss up between this or a ELP , and I'm sure glad I went for the strat

Thats it, my my mind is made up about the shell pickguard.

It offers just the right amount of style without going overboard. Now all I have to do is decide on which pickups I want to go with.

Why is no one satisfied with the stock pickups and always condidering that they have to change these? Well i bought my (MIM) 70s re-issue today and am keeping it stock. As for effects for overdrive or distortion, I'll just keep my stock pickups because my (MIM) is a 70s re-issue and has to have the Shaller tuning heads and Alnico pickups anyway to keep the authenticity of the 70s re-issue guitar even though it is a (MIM) guitar. Looks beautiful. Color Natural with a maple neck. If I want to get overdrive or distortion I've bought what Robin Trower is using now the(Fulltone OCD pedal) to get my overdrive. I will keep the guitar's stock pickups alone in all it 70s re-issue originality and just use the Fulltone OCD pedal to give me the overdrive.

It depends on the sound you want. When I got the MIA, I was really into Blues-Rock (SRV & Hendrix), so wanted a pup set that would give me a harsh bluesy tone. $220 later, I had TX Specials and exactly the tone I was looking for. As an alternative, I was running the SG for when I felt like rocking out, but it didn't have the Strat sound or feel (don't get me wrong, it's an amazing guitar, but it's tuned more for harder rock). So I checked out a bunch of Strats and settled on the Classic Players '50s, which I outfitted w/ EMG SA's and new pots (EXG and SPC) for higher output and greater versatility. With the turn of two knobs, I can go from sparkling clean to nasily dirt (I've been trying to get that nasily sound for several years) when I really feel like biting down. Did I mention they do not buzz or hum, even without using the mid pup?

For some sound bytes, check out the site in my sig:
-Marooned (Jam) features the EMGs and pots
-"I Playz me..." is the SG
-"SKy..." "Texas..." "Little..." are the TX Specials ("Sky.." thru the Bassman and Fulltone OCD and w/ .12s on the Strat)

Fulltone pedals rock ;)

Hi all,

I am still just in the beginning stages of learning to play the guitar, and I had been learning on an Epiphone Les Paul...but I was looking around at my local guitar shop, and a 2007 MIM Standard in Arctic White caught my eye...

It then shared the car ride home with me, and I have been in love with it ever since. It is just an absolute joy to play!
