I ordered one today in Olympic white with maple fret board. I'm a big fan of Texas Specials. It comes with a gig bag I plan on using on another guitar. I'll get a hard case for this baby. I'll now have three Strats again. I really enjoy the two tone tobacco 2007 Strat Deluxe I have. I got rid of a 50s MIM one I had which turned out to be a real lemon. This is no slight against MIM Fenders because I've played some really great ones in the past.

Thanks! Nice Candy apple red. I saw that finish in the store and it is just awesome. If I didn't go with the white that would be my next choice.

The thing is I was looking in buying a Strat again, since my first guitar was 79 AmStd, and tried many guitars till I stumbled upon this American Special, it was love at first tone and feel, just had to have it.

Yeah I catch myself just looking at it enjoying the finish and contours of the guitar.
But what really got me besides the finish is the neck, the profile and satin finish with jumbo frets was all I was really looking for.

I might be mistaken, but I think American Standard series was introduced in '87.

Oh yeah, so? It was American Stratocaster with bullet thrust rod, rosewood, neck tilt...

So nothing. I was just clarifying that American Standard is a series that was released in 1987.

I might came out a bit rude, but in all honesty most of people here know that it's just easier to call em Standard, to the point you should go around forum and point that out in most threads...

I agree with de Melo. "American Standard" "American Special" etc. all mean specific things. You might say I have a standard 79 MiA Strat (if ever a Strat was standard) but that isn't an American Standard. Just because other fora don't understand the difference doesn't make it right.

Exactly. In 1979 there were just, wait for it....Stratocasters. And imitation Stratocasters. Fender Japan didn't get started until '81/'82 and Fender MIM got cranked up in '89/'90. Prior to that a Strat is a Strat, other than the odd ducks-" The Strat", Custom Shop orders, and a maybe a few artists sig models.
