I have a 1985 E series MIJ Strat with the Fender locking trem that I want to change out to a standard Fender dual fulcrum trem. Does anyone know what I should get and will any standard fulcrum trem fit? It has 2 1/8" string spacing. Thanks.

There have been several trem models in those eighties MIJ's so a pic would be helpful.
My first impression is, you won't find a drop-in replacement (and, of course, drop-in replacements seldom happen in real life).

It is the Series One type locking trem. I've read that an American Standard Strat's trem after 2008 will fit, just changing out the posts and post bushings is all that's needed. I wanted to make sure that the distance between the posts is the same.

I replaced a Kahler 2520 fulcrum tremolo loaded in a contemporary Stratocaster made in 1987 with a 2008 American standard bridge.
That was an almost drop in replacement, except for the bushings in the body.

I don't know if the Kahler and the system 1 trem share the same pivot spacing....

The System One (by Schaller) should have 80 mm posts spacing, so just about any replacement trem would need the existing holes plugged and new ones drilled. Plus, besides the string spacing you need to consider the overall height, the saddle contact point, the trem cavity size etc; not to mention that the instrument may change a lot in play feel and sound.

IMHO, the Sys1 is a helluvagood trem. Maybe reconsider, and keep the original. Parts are hard to find but available, if it needs fixing.
