Depends on the type of gig.

Christmas party, wedding reception, I go LS shirt, tie and vest.

Bar gigs, T Shirt and jeans. Usually music related.

I have to admit that the attire has changed.

To quote Blue Oyster Cult:

Raise your can of beer on high
and seal your fate forever.
Our best years have passed us by:
The golden age of leather.

My boss, one other person and I were drafted to perform at the last two company Christmas parties. Our Senior VP wanted us to look "like the 70s but don't go too far with it and rattle any cages on the E.C.!" Ummm ... okay ... so does that mean jeans, a (company) t-shirt, boots but no doobie stuck behind the ear?

Gigging or not it's always to the left ;)

Bell bottom jeans (the bigger, the better), big collared shirt (as many colors and designs as possible---paisley is good), a bandana (most likely red), and an over size "Peace Sign" emblem on a necklace (dangling on your chest of your open shirt). And maybe...just maybe...a blue jean vest to top it all off.

I had all those things back in the day. But from what I can see, many rock stars from the time now look more or less like I do today: old, grey, short hair, conventional button up shirt, slacks and shoes. One irony in all this is that while two of us are authentic "70s kids" (my active playing years were from 1967 - 1979), my boss and the SVP who ordained all of this are distinctly 80s kids ... whole different era.

Talk about wide bell bottoms ... along with platform shoes and wide open shirt, then let's give my thinning hair a perm to boot. I'd be fired for sure unless the entire Exec Committee died laughing. To make matters worse, my SVP is a hard core Disco type (to this day) while my boss was in Hair bands ... a distinct split within the era.

So how did we really show up? Like two 60 something middle managers and one 50 something senior manager who knew better than to tempt the fates. Yep (YAWNNNN) it was just like we dress for work ...

Hmm, I think you could make both of them happy by going for the Bee Gees look:

Dress is very very important onstage. Visual effect is nearly as important as audible effect. Stage presence is definitely if not more important.
My old band and one of my current bands both use similar uniform. Which makes things easy.
Black jeans, black bikers jacket. Black boots and black t-shirt

But then again, I don't mind dressing up for special occasions.

A cheerleader once and even the fairy tinkerbell another time. I was blasted. Lots of fun though. Once word got out, the band were fighting off bookings

hehehehe....cool topic.

Personally, I usually describe myself as a "walking dichotomy of fashion", LOL!!! My typical stage dress is usually "work pants", a Hawaiian shirt, a black felt pork pie hat (ala Blues Brothers) and I prefer my checkered tennis shoes (think Fast Times at Ridgemont High), although for longer gigs, I often defer to more comfortable footwear. I have been known, on the rare occasion, to simply go with a basic sweater and jeans, but for the most part I do try to....ummm...stand out in the crowd a bit, LOL!

Most people tend to think I'm a tad crazy...and I tend to prefer it that way :-).

Peace.

That's how the Ramones did it.
