For the poverty of others I am blameless.

hello people,
so the jack turns out to be a switchcraft, with a star washer, as i'd expect on an MIA signature Strat.
the wires were neatly braided to exit the pocket together - as ive seen on every other USA strats' jacks that havent yet been touched.
so i tested the sound with the jack out, and it was fine; but when i pressed it back in the pocket it started acting up; and i felt the wires touching the pocket wall.
so i unbraided them and ran them along there respective terminals' sides, towards the 1/4" opening, and doubled them back to exit the pocket. and i straightened out the terminal to run straight down into the pocket.
i put it back together its now perfect, even with rotating and stressing the cable tip.
im not sure if it was the wires or something else i unknowingly corrected, but i wanted to share in case it helps anyone else who searches this forum for such an issue.
thanks for the help!
jt

Glad you're back on the road. And the "fix" as it were, was free.

Rawk on!

Yup, this is it. I'll just bet the jack cavity is shielded with that black paint, right? That's what the cable/wiring is shorting out against. Had the same problem, same solution.

thank you, Arjay!
and evets618... interestingly, the pocket is not sheilded  but i actually was thinking along your line; when i saw it acted funny with the wires pressing against the pocket wall, i wondered why, since there was nothing to short the circuit out.
definitely weird!
