Well I don't know if has been done before,
But I won't be loosing that tiny tremolo arm spring no more. I made a plug when I'm not using tremolo arm

Since I had some cheap D'Addario plastic ones left since I upgraded my acoustics to Tusq bridge pins I cut it down and it's a tight fit, it works as a plug :D
And I'd doesn't fall out

In the words of Capt. Blackadder "A plan so cunning that you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel."

Stick you trem spring in auto grease and insert it in the hole, it never falls out again.
I have done this to every standard tremolo. Now I have a bag of trem arm springs I dont need.

Since I keep my trem on the guitar all the time, this doesn't really apply to me. However, I would think you could set the spring on a strong magnet , thus magnetizing the spring. That would keep the spring in steel trem blocks, but not zinc or brass.

Nice solution! The only potential problem I see with this approach is losing the plug while using the trem bar.

Would an o-ring keeping the spring attached to the trem bar work as an alternative, perhaps? Then you'd also have it when needed?

Or a strap with a pocket for both the trem bar and spring? Some straps have pick pockets already...

Or you could just put a dab of vaseline on the spring and put it back in. won't fall out.

Yeah greace would work to extent, but hey this came to mind and it's a solution that I found most ecstatically pleasing + works great, and the mix of acoustic /electric is interesting to me too...
