Agreed, JM! And in fact, having now examined TS's in more detail while putting them back into my Am Spec, I see that they AREN'T wound around plastic bobbins. So I've broken my own rule (on the one in my CS Strat) by pushing the G pole down a bit!

I suppose because it's not one of the E poles, and the glue holding the fibre top/bottom to the other 5 pole-pieces will be doing its job, I've got away with it (and I'd probably get away with it again). But I won't be bothering with the 3 I've just put back in the Am Spec.

I have to consume a certain amount of humble pie on this one!!!

Cheers - Peter.

Well by searching for elusive G string buzz o finally got around to push pole piece down, since it was too high and causing the G string to vibrate weirdly and produce some irritating buzz and harmonics, worked well, it's all balanced out and I don't have to compromise the sound by lowering pups so G string wouldn't be louder than the first two. Or change the way I pick.
And the buzz that I just couldn't resolve is now bearable almost gone.
Thanks Peter
Cheers

I love the CS Texas Specials in my '97 Am Std and have never had any problem adjusting them up or down from the sides to get equally representative volume from all strings. The adjustment may take a little time to get right, but it sure beats running the risk of damaging the P/u. Then again, I grew up with the staggered poles on '70's Strats and it's what I'm used to. I'll take your word that you have successfully flattened the poles, but frankly I've never felt the need to try.

Yeah it was just to high and messing with the oscillation of G string, I did set it up so it doesn't sound louder than first two strings but had to sacrifice some of the Strat quack,.so I decided to gamble, works like a charm now wherever I set the height of the pups it's balanced and G string is sounding normal without magnetic interference.

DONE! Finished! It's love ND hate with the Strat but finally got it right after hours of fiddling, lowered the G pole, finally eliminated the string buzz that now I'm certain it's due to high pole, finished, cleaned it and picked up the Tele, screw.you Strat I need a brake,.sit for a while. This damn MIM Tele I setted up when I unpacked it and there's it no buzz no problem, ah the simplicity!

*shhh I still like the sound and the fell of Strat more

Ok here's a pic of Texas Specials with lowered 3rd pole, everything works fine, G string is balanced out, nothing was damaged

Yes, Waymore, despite saying I wouldn't (as they have fibre bobbins), I did push my G & D poles down a bit in the finish! More than yours, in fact!

Nobody's ever going to recommend this on such p/ups, and I understand why, but it's worked for me, and obviously for you too!

Incidentally, I now have the new trem unit (without stripped threads!) for the Special but won't change it until I've worn out the 10's I currently have on there. Still using the bodged-up trem, but the guitar sounds great to me so I didn't see any point in changing it from the standard item. And with the slinky refret, I'm having difficulty in putting this Strat down!

Cheers - Peter.

That's good to hear, new trem on the way, pushed poles etc...that Special with refret sweet!

As for recommendations for pups I really didn't care much, yes they are expensive but I don't want to compensate with my finger picking if I don't have to, and obviously I don't have to... Even at Sweetwater they are doing it to customers who want it http://www.sweetwater.com/insync/adjusting-string-volume-strat-pickup-staggered-polepieces/
everything else is just a myth or should I call it dogma.
My Strat sounds even better now, I pushed the G poles around 0.6mm and that was a sweet spot for me.

Blimey, Waymore, not sure about Sweetwater's 'hit it with a hammer' idea! As I expect you discovered, pushing the poles gently but firmly with the insulated handles of pliers, cutters or similar is quite sufficient. Unusual (strange?) to see someone 'official' recommending this mod, though!

Cheers - Peter.

Yeah tapping it with a hammer isn't an option in my book...
