A few weeks back I posted about getting a 2014 Rickenbacker in Walnut. Since I got it I haven't bonded with its very slim neck.

So..... Today I brought the Rickenbacker to a local Vintage Guitar dealer. A short while later I walked out with a 1979 Fender Stratocaster which is all original with the original case. It's got a lovely birds eye maple neck with a nice chunky "D" shape. Pots and switches are all 100% with no crackling and boy do those pickups chime. I couldn't be happier and a dream has been fulfilled. Apart from the wear on the body, everything else is in great shape. Frets are perfect.

As many people on the forum know, I am a big fan of '70s era Strats, and have owned a few. Congrats!

But you might want to get the nut replaced:

Unless the picture is deceptive, it looks like the strings have cut all through this one over the years. Which isn't uncommon, and not too expensive to get fixed.

I weighed this boat anchor today, came in at 9 pounds on the nose. Couldn't resist taking some more photos as well.....

Any issues with the neck pocket? They can be a little too big and the neck moves, but it can be dealt with.

On my first 79 neck used to move horizontally, if you bang a guitar on your leg while playing it would move down...out of alignment with the body.

Put a piece of card stock in the base of the neck and that should help a bit.
