I'm your guy. I'll get to you with a price tonight when I get home. Being that it's "USA Assembled" it's not going fetch the same price as the regular US Am. Stratocasters of this period. If possible, I would add a video showing how well the guitar sounds.

Thanks for that paris - that would be great.

I paid £369.00 (~$515.00 at current exchange rates) for it brand new back in September 1991.

Anyone know of an approximate price range for a second hand one with little use? There are a few dings on the body and the neck plus some of the chrome has come off some of the headstock nuts. Nothing major and no alterations or repairs required at all.

I'd do a video but I'm not that hot as a guitarist

So, no MIJ or fully made in USA.
Thanks again.
your welcome
Definitely no MIJ but made in USA for export would be ok as long as you list the Japanese/squire aspects.
thanks for posting the guitar, gave me something to research and learn.
Paris will come up w/ a price, I would guess around $200-350, but I really don't know.

According to my Vintage Guitar Price Guide, American Std Stratocasters from this period are worth between $700-$850 used on the high end. It wouldn't be unreasonable to ask for $550-$650. Good luck.

Keep in mind that this is not an American Standard Strat.

No it's not. I've added this into the price. It's more than a MIM or MIJ
But not quite an American Std.

American Standard Stratocasters are more of a 'model' rather than where it is made.

It was a model. It happened to be made in the US. It was Fender's basic American model. I often refer to them as the guitar that saved Fender.

I onced owned and '87 Strat Plus and thought it was best Strat Fender ever made.

ShaunOreilly,
Lucky if you can have more than $350 IMO. But we don't know how is the market on your country, England ?

I agree that this guitar will be a difficult sale.

I wonder if the guitar's lack of exposure (an American made Fender Stratocaster few people know about) will hurt resale value?

....

The easiest way to establish market value is to look at a large market - eBay is your friend. Find a guitar, or several, similar spec to your own and follow them. Assuming they sell, that will be their market value. This value will have influences - location, standard of advert, transport arrangements, number of similar guitars available at the time etc.

At the end of the day, in monetary terms, a guitar is only worth what someone else is willing to pay for it. This may be different to your personal valuation which will be more emotionally driven and be governed by how much you would need to pay to find an acceptable replacement.

<edit> Mental note: Read from the start of the thread John - I have previously, but didn't relate it as the same thread.

The documentation is worthless unless you can find the person with the guitar it relates to. The guitar is of dubious cheap specification and, as such isn't going to get you much. What someone will pay is probably going to be well under the value you would wish to accept.

I have many things that do nothing but gather dust because I'm not willing to let someone have such an otherwise good thing for so little money. There are things I would rather burn than sell at a stupidly low value...but I am a grumpy old git.

For people knowing Fender guitar yes.
Other people who don't know much about Fender can pay too much because they will see " Made in usa" :(

Thanks for all your extra input guys.

It's definitely a hard one to price.

I've been doing my research on eBay now regarding present prices and recently sold prices but it's so hard to find a guitar with a similar build history to my own and therefore get an "apples to apples" comparison.

I'm going to find the typical selling prices for Stratocasters in the UK for the range of different options (from the Squier, to MIM, to MIJ to fully Made in the USA). I'm just wondering what price bracket mine would fall into on the totem pole.

Thanks for your experienced eyes :)
