Does anyone know if there's a spring cover back plate out there that works with a hard tail start? I want to keep a cover on back but it's difficult to remove the old stings because the opening doesn't line up. I have a 2012 American Standard. Thanks!!

I don't quite get you - I didn't know Fender made an AmStd hardtail version in 2012..?
The "usual" hardtails have ferrules, which aren't supposed to be covered. And a decked/blocked trem should work just fine with a "normal" backplate, unless the trem block is way out of its place.

Anyway, there's plenty of trem covers to choose from: darrenriley back plates
And you'll find even more with a little googling...
If none of the existing ones fit, one possibility is to cut the hole yourself - or make the whole plate.
Or try contacting companies that make custom pickguards, they could also cut a back plate.

WHAT THE HELL......?

Why in the world would a hardtail Strat need a cover for a non-existent trem?

I think it must be a joke, Arjay.

 :?:

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I'm going to assume that you mean a Strat where the tremolo has been blocked or decked. This is what I've done to all my Strats and as a consequence the opening for the strings on the back cover and the position of the trem block do not align. I bought after market covers without holes and made custom openings.

I think you're correct, BM. The last American Standard I had was set up with the trem decked and the slot didn't quite line up with block. I was always going to cut the slot wider to accommodate it but never got around to it - I just wound having to take the plate off a couple of times to remove stuck string ends.

Thanks Bluer that's what i meant. I just wondered if someone made a custom one for a tremolo that was blocked.

Good idea but as far as I know they don't come for blocked trems. If you have a mortising machine or access to one, it's easy to cut a rectangle exactly where the holes of the trem appear when the bridge is decked.

Cheers!

If removing and reinstalling six screws are so overwhelming for you whenever you need to change strings, why not just leave the damn trem cover off?
