i need your opinion for this: I got a Fender Stratocaster "Foto Flame" ri ´62 (MIJ). A year ago, I change the original mics (that i already keep) for a set of texas special (the common thing...). Well a few months ago i saw a Highway one (upgraded) sunburst and i really like that guitar with those "big" frets and that ´70s. The things i can´t bought another guitar but i can swap my guitar (plus some money) for this one. Some friends say i´m mad if i change my guitar for the highway one. Others say "it´s american" and in the future you can upgrade the guitar if you want. i know my guitar it´s MIJ but it´s an amazing piece of art!

what´s your opinion...should i change it or not?

thanks for read this post and sorry for my english!

J.

keep your mij mate. they are super guitars. Dont let where a guitar is made make your choice.

[edit] its sounds like you love your MIJ

i really love my guitar. She got some "mojo". i know she isn´t unique but for me it´s more than that. Love at first sight. Thats the key of all. i can´t sell it or change because it´s more than a piece of wood. "it´s a partner and a friend". thats why i was thinking of change the guitar for an american.

i feel the same way about my MIM. when i got married in 95 my wife made me sell all my guitars/amps/effects to pay for the wedding. 1 year later we broke up and i went and bought my 1st fender, my MIM. It was like having my first guitar again. it felt like it was shaped to my hands. Now i have some much more expensive guitars but my MIM is still the best. It may not be made the best or with the best parts, but in my heart it is always best.

You are the only one that can make that decision. Personally I don't let where a guitar is made get in the way of keeping it or not.

Chet is right you can not base on how you deside by were it is made

that is also very true. i have the fender lite ash korean made
strocaster and i would not trade or sell it for the MIA lite ash
stratocaster. i have played the MIA lite ash and it dosent have the tone or feel the korean lite ash strat has. i like the korean lite ash much better than the MIA lite ash. so chet is right but also you are talking about one of the best strats out there today the highway one.

strats and i think all fender guitars are very particular to the player, they grow with you. i personally wouldn't trade my beat up mim (which I'm told is actually a squire) for anything. Custom shop, American, Japanese reissue whatever. Anybody could play it and look on it like it just crawled out the toilet, it wouldnt worry me, its mine not theirs. i bet 98% of the members of this forum feel the same about one of their guitars, probably the one that got em sold on fender. It seems to be a quality that leo's designs possess above any others. do you know anyone who collects gibsons, ric's or gretsch's like some fender collectors. maybe there are a few, bet its not as common though.

the ones that look like they crawled out of a toilet are the best ones by far.

The way I see it, if you love the way a guitar plays, you can always get it to sound the way you want but the opposite is not always true even if it is set up correctly. So, I'd go with the better playing one, regardless of what it sounds like.

hi, well--. both points are right. if the guitar that you play sounds amazing you will love that "babe" whatever the guitar looks. One extreme example is: Number One (SRV). In this case "the man" was amazing.

i believe there is "a" guitar for everyone. you will play a million guitars with millions of different looks and shapes. But when you find "that one" you always are going to love that "babe". After that you may have hundred of guitars but you always are going to play that one. That one you can´t even think in sell or trade. "Because you can´t trade you heart." (sorry for the poetic words). meanwhile you can play (and keep) other guitars until you found that one.

i can say everyone here remember their first electric guitar (even if you keep it or sell it long time ago). If thats not love i don´t know what love is it. i know this is extreme to say but i think everyone here understand.

thanks for read this and again sorry for my english.
