1997 Big Apple Stratocaster HH, just bought used. My questions are many. I wish to put hotter pickups in it and was looking at the EVH Wolfgangs. Smart or dumb? Thoughts? Comments? I just got what Fender had on specs for this guitar. I measured the pickups as being F spaced. Does the wolfgang come F spaced or suggestions? Seymour duncan JB trembucker in the bridge? Help?

This may not be the answer you want, but here goes:
Give the guitar, your other gear and yourself some time to get accustomed to each other; sometimes it takes surprisingly long to get the best out of a new guitar. A year isn't at all too long.
It's got the SD 59 in the neck and the SD Pearly Gates Plus in the bridge - that ain't a bad combo at all.

And, original Big Apples don't come along every day.

Very good point! Gotta get these pickups adjusted right. Maybe that will change my mind. It's in great shape. Just replaced the original pickguard to a black one (all my guitars are black...lol) I might have the pickups too close to the strings.

Yes, I agree with jmattis - the original p/ups are a great combination!

Lucky you - in GB, Big Apples are getting hard to find! I have a couple of HH Strats but I converted them myself.

My only objection to any 90's Strat is the lack of 'original contour body', which I think looks so right. But my '93 Plus works just as well as any other!

Cheers - Peter.

It's freaky strange when moving to an HH configured Strat. Apart from a change in tone, the big plus is what Robbie Robertson sought in the wiring of his guitar. There's no middle pickup to interfere with your picking style. Rock on!

Doc
