I had the exact same response to Ernie Ball Rock-N-Roll strings that this guy did

I played D'Addarios for years and they were the most inconsistent strings I ever played. Every guitar you look st no matter how cheap will be strung with D'Addario's. you get what you pay for in my opinion and the first thing I do with any guitar is get rid of the strings (usually D'Addarios) and put I brand I love, that I know will last, that sound great and to me it is Elixer
Polyweb's but this is a definite whatever floats your boat topic and I'm all done with it. Go with what you love....bottom line

so he can't tell the difference between 9s and 10s, and he's writing string reviews that we should take seriously,

nice try...

I would think that most Fenders come with Fender strings. Which, granted, might be D'Addarios except for winding/packaging, but still.

My SG came with Gibson branded strings. Same applies.

The last guitar I bought, a Yamaha Revstar, came with ghs roundwound pure nickel strings. Great strings, but I can't play them. Given how common nickel allergy is, it seems rather dumb to put nickel strings on a guitar by default instead of something that everyone can use.
EB Cobalt strings are one of the few where the producer has actually stated that they're nickel free, so in that "medium" price range, that's what I'd go for as a default. In the cheaper price range, plain steel seems like a reasonable default choice.

For used guitars and long time floor demos, I believe stores like Guitar Center use D'Addario simply because they're the cheapest.

In what ever size you like.

I'm not kidding, they will last 3 to 6 months depending on how much you play. I usually break a string before they need to be changed.

Yeah alway loved em on my acoustics but they really didn't work with my American Special Stratocaster, checked it out just wrote the post on Strat forum on Elixirs.
And they really last a long long time!
