Totally with you on "contact with the block" theory John.
Resonance has to begin somewhere...
Can't say I've ever had a Bullet "spit it's guts out" from the ferrule, but I guess if they can leave the packaging "rusty" then anything is possible.

Thanks guys. I just received my D'Addario .09 strings and will re-string this week end. I'll post how they sound and how well I like or dislike them. Once again, thanks for all the info. :D

I have been playing for a long time and I have used ELIXER 9-42's since they came out. I only use the Polywebs as the give you much more life than the Nanowebs. I HIGHLY recommend them.I never used D'Adarios as they were too inconsistent in quality (IMO) Give a set a try and you might find the string you always were looking for, good luck. I use them on my 2012 American Standard with the fat 50 Pickups and the micro tilt neck plate. Absolutely LOVE that Strat and it's a Beauty in Mystic Red.Had it set up WITH those strings and even though I can change pickups, tuners and done hundreds (if not more) setups. I always have my tech check it out anyway. It's Always better to be safe than sorry. I Always play maple necks, more snap in my opinion. Again, good luck to you

I installed the D'Addario 9-42 nickel wound EXL120-10P strings. They do sound a lot different than my old strings. Of course I have no idea what brand or gauge they were or how old they were. So far I like the tone. I still have some fine tuning to do.... set string height, pick up height, nut action and intonation. But with just basic tuning my Strat sound a whole lot better. Can't wait to hear it after all the other steps are done. Thank for all the tips. :D

I've tried Ernie Ball they dont have a very good sound and the strings are very hard.. i was also not too happy about the 4th string being miswound and having a knot in the string that is unfixable.

I would personally recommend Savarez 540R instead. The trebles are clear and crisp, and so are the bass strings, which sound very loud and metallic, as they should. They also make the instrument easy to play. Your fingers never fight with the strings and plucking rapidly with your fingers could never have been easier. I will probably never go back to regular strings again.

You can also try to google some review sites like Guitars Report and The Hub for other suggestions, but I would still strongly recommend Savarez.

I don't think you're aware that classical guitar strings are not paramagnetic and will not work on a Stratocaster or any other electric guitar that uses magnetic pickups.
(Never mind that the set you linked to is 0.024" for the high E and won't even fit the nut. And don't even have ball ends - do you tie them to the trem block?)

Otherwise, they're great.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

I agree, Fender strings are nothing I would ever play and certainly NEVER gig with as far as using classical strings on an electric Oh Boy

I started out with Ernie Ball, GHS, Fender, tried D'Addario, then discovered Dean Markley 'Blue Steel' shortly after in 1996 and stuck with it ever since to this day. To me, there are no such things as "which brand of strings sounds better" because may factors involved when playing an electric guitar, ie: amps, types of guitar, types of effects used, etc, and ultimately - the player...but most importantly the thing to look for on a set of strings is how long they will last - and the DM Blue Steel Custom Lite (09-46) 'cryogenics' has proved the test of time, at least for me and many other guitar players. Yes they costs more, but I don't buy them as often due to their longevity. An average set of Dean Markley Blue steel will last me anywhere from 8 months to over a year and I play the hell out of my guitars - and play very aggressively - Metal, Hard Rock, Blues which requires a shyte load of bending!

Who make Fender strings ?
I've heard it said that this guy is pretty good. Goes by the name of Yngwie Malmsteen and although I'm not 100% certain, I think there may be a good chance he plays Fender strings.

I play a 2012 American Standard with custom shop Fat 50 pickups and I went through a lot of Standards until I found the one guitar I just couldn't do without and picking strings isn't really that much different. I think we are pretty much agreed that it all comes down to personal choice. Someone said the Their Cyrogenic strings were the best and lasted the longest. I have found them to be with out much life and rather dead sounding. I personally find Elixer Polywebs last longer and give me the best sound and I too have used about every string made to find what was right for me but it all comes down to personal preference. So whatever you find that gives you the best sound and the longest life is the string YOU should use and keep an open mind because strings will always be a matter personal preference. Play what you love and keep on playing. No ones opinion matters but your own. It doesn't matter what you play as long as you keep on playing with what YOU like. IMHO

It depends on the endorsement deals. He was also endorsed by Dean Markley

Absolutely. One has to find their own comfort whether it be sound, feel, or even longevity on their strings. To me they pretty much sound the same on one guitar but then again different on another, then when I do make some adjustments here and there between amps and effects pedals, it is a whole new different ball game. So try a little variety and stick with what you're comfortable with.

I've played for years and back in the 60s/70s, I always used D'Addarios (they were the "good" strings available where I lived). About 10 years ago, I started taking my guitars to a tech here in LA and he generally recommends EBs, so that's pretty much what I've used since then, with a few odd D'Addario sets (got a 10 pack on sale at GC for instance) thrown in. Both work equally well in my opinion and with my relatively light touch, no broken strings.

I have tried a few premium types (e.g, Elixir, Cobalt) and while I do hear and feel some difference, not sure if it's enough to warrant the price difference. One other thing: I use 10s on almost everything, with the exception that I have D'Addario 9s on my SG (usually).
