The guitar looks pretty ligit. The pickguard has been replaced. From what I can tell, everything else looks good. The pickups should have flush pole piece magnets. the body has the swiming pool and I see a TBX tone pot.

Here's a link to the 1st of 4 videos I did on identifying an '80s and '90s American Standard. I hope this helps.

The neck and body look real. The pickguard is not from Fender, it is from Allparts. The sticker is real. Here is a picture of my 1984 neck.

Still looks like the real thing to me.

I'm no expert on guitar electronics, but I think the wiring/soldering isn't completely factory stock - some solder joints aren't pretty, and there seems to be no resistor on the TBX potentiometer, under/beside the capacitor. A mod or just repair work, I can't say.

Here's some potentially interesting reading:
Eighties Strats Manual pdf (The file name is actually "Strat Plus (1987) Manual", but it covers other models, too - including AmStd.)
PremierGuitar TBX Article Part1 (You probably find part2 link there, too)
BlueGuitar TBX mod

And the wiring diagram original:

Edit: The pic is from Legendarytones Strat 2000 review

+1

Here's part 2> http://www.premierguitar.com/articles/The_Fender_TBX_Tone_Control_Mod_Part_2
Explains why there's no resistor.

If you have some solder skills/equipment, you could clean up the wiring and excess solder on the pots. This would help you date the pots, by being able to see the numbers.

I decided to return the guitar that I got, because:
1) he did not Fender Pickguard
2) because the seals on the hull guitars are missing,
3) because it is refinished (painted).

Thanks to everyone who applied and who helped me ...

For the price you pay (around $975), it looks like a good deal to me for a modern vintage US made Fender.
I would buy it for that price, if the sound and feel is good!!!
1. Its an old guitar, maybe the original pickguard was cracked
2. I don't know what "seals" you mean, there are no seals that I am aware of.
3. Maybe a repaint; but it is a correct color from the time period

Best regards

^^He paid about $1100US for it. I wouldn't pay close to that kind of money for a guitar with almost unknown history and somewhat botched condition. Glad he returned it. For that kind of money there are far better Stratocasters out there.
