I recently got an EJ scratch and dent Strat from AMS for about $1299
it plays fantastic and sounds beautiful through my HR Deluxe.
I can't find anything wrong with it, there's no nicks, no scratches and no neck problems that I've read about in other posts
I can't figure out why anyone would have returned it
So whats your opinion? Anyone else find a good deal? , or did you get a DUD

I just got a used strat plus, and it's just got one tiny black mark but plays awesome

I've bought everything from TV's to Fridgerators to dishwashers to Guitars as scratch or dents. These are undeniably some of the best deals I have ever come across.

Unless you are anal (and I don't mean it in a bad way), I would go with this option every time - it's really like buying a guitar that's been broke-in for a year or so - withouth the abuse - and probably warranteed as well.

In reference to pickup trucks, I read some time ago a quote that said: The more dents you have, the more you can get.

I've gotten two stratocasters from Musicians Friend in the past six months as scratch'n dents and couldn't find a mark on either. Both are awesome American made instruments and I've saved over $500.00 in the process.

Hello HemiRam,

Sounds like you got a nice
chunk of change off the price.

I'd buy a scratch and denter
if it wasn't badly beat, same
with used items.

Congrats on that new axe.

Cheers.

I have two that are considered scratch and dent or blems - been searching one of them going on a year and still haven't found it, but they took a nice chunk of change off the price.

I also bought a dehumidifier for the basement about a month ago that runs $225 and I got a refurb for $75 - with full warranty.

Even when you can find a blem, so what. If it's a scratch on the back, then you don't have to concern yourself with your belt buckle scratching it. Besides the audience will only see it when you are playing your strat with your teeth.

Not to mention the kind of money Fender is getting to 'relic' a guitar.

I never seem to be without conflicts on those dates. My hours during the week leave me nothing but weekends to catch up, and too many other priorites.

Perhaps this year.

Thanks for the heads up.

That's The Riverhead Blues Festival he's looking at. (for you gearheads in the NY Metropolitan area.)

Doc.

These scratch and dent items... are you all sure there is really nothing marked up on them... no nicks? How about the pick guards? Aren't they scratched?

I see a lot of this stuff for sale on Musicians Friend and I am tempted but usually end up getting a new guitar instead.

Both of my main Guitars I purchased "Used" from Daddy's; '70 - '72 SG ran me $1400 and the '95 - '96 MIA Strat ran $680. I have my eye on a used Classic Players '50s, costs $620. Used guitars are great; you can generally find one in decent (if not great) shape and save a bunch of $$$.

I was worried about spending so much for something that might look bad or not be in good playing condition and kind of buying used guitar, but like i said, i can't find anything wrong with the EJ i got. I figured if i didn't' like it, i could send it back. I have bought four other scratch and dents, and 1 has very light scratches on the pickgaurd that you can see if you hold the guitar under a lamp, big deal, take the money you save and buy a custom jobby.
Anyway, has anyone else found a good deal or have I been lucky??

Personally I would careless if the pick guard had a knife mark across it, if the saving was good. I could careless about the back of the guitar since I don't play with my teeth so no one will see it anyway.

I like shiny nice guitars, but I like ones that are played much better than I like shiny ones. It's meant to be played, it will get scratches, so buy one that is pre-scratched and save money. Or you can buy one that is really scratched up and has a cigarette burn or two and waste money.

You Americans dont half get some good deals. Does anyone know about import taxes to the uk im thinking of coming over bargain hunting.

Personaly I'd have no problem buying a dented or scratched guitar (within reason something like the rory gallagher strat just looks ugly to me) if it played the way i wanted it to.
