Thanks, I changed to staggered locking on a two tree headstock and found I don't need the D/G tree. I suppose the length between the nut and the tuning key on the high strings may make one tree necessary despite the shorter spindle. I agree completely about the locking part and thought they should have had shorter heights all along. Enjoy your new guitars.

And you don't get any unwanted tones coming from the G (beteween nut and tuner)? Perhaps it's because I tune to E flat on 9-42's, but I always need 2 trees whatever tuners are fitted. If the Strat doesn't have a D/G tree, I always fit one! I find a spot of 3-in-1 stops any binding.

It seems to just be me, though...!

Cheers - Peter.

I'm not sure I could quantify an answer regarding unwanted tones, however I would say as far as tuning stability I am able to get the same results with or without the 2nd tree. So with regards to eliminating a binding point if possible, one tree is better imho than two. I also tune to pitch then slightly flat string to string using 10-46's w/ a floating bridge set up per Dan Erlewines book allowing spring tension to absorb their share of string movement.
Don't want this thread to get off track though.
Cheers

Maybe Fender will reinstate the LSR nut for the Shawbucker Elites (just a thought).

Why not offer a Shawbucker Elite HSH with dual zebras and a N4 in the middle?

Xhefri did a piece not too long ago wherein he compared what he called 'Fullerton Contours' with 'Corona Contours'. The former being more in line with the vintage [ 50's era]guitar body. He also submitted photographs to support his thesis. Do you see that comparison here?

...my complaint with the Deluxe bodies was their boxy.."sturdy"..design...

Ditto!! My disappointment with that goes back nearly 30 years with the appearance of the Clapton Signature Series. According to A.R. Duchossior, the guitar was supposed to be an upgrading of the electronics in a '56/'57 Stratocaster which the old 'Blackie' was. However, the body contours of my '89 Pewter are less rounded, and the waist cut less deep than the '57. The same for my Strat Plus of '88/89 vintage and '08 Deluxe VG. Strangely, my Custom Shop Clapton Prototype, neck date 12/87, which was the precursor of the production model, has vintage contours, as does my '08 Gilmour, and '14 60th Anniv. '54. So within a ~30 year period 1988-2015
there's variation in body contours dependent upon the need for reproducing specs of original design. I suppose that once the Clapton went to the factory production line, it was build to stock specs for production Strats of that era. When, in '04, I ordered a Custom Shop guitar based on the Clapton model and requested vintage contours, it arrived as ordered.

While on the subject of the Road Worn Series, my personal favorite was the original '50's guitar whose neck contours I found to be particularly comfortable to my hand and almost as favorable as the neck on my Clapton Strat. I believe this neck carve has since been abandoned.

They do seem more in line with the vintage bodies, although the vintage were not consistent.

The inconsistencies arose from the fact that the handfinishers had a time and motion quota. Last thing I remember reading, in discussion, was 2 minutes per unit. I would expect a Custom Shop build to receive a tad more lov'in. The first time I put my Gilmour over my shoulder, it appeared obvious to have a different feel.
