Definitely a cool guitar. The new noiseless pups are the best yet IMO, very chimy, articulate, with character, not at all sterile as some of the previous versions. The S1 options are very usable, especially with distortion. I usually don't care for the combination of a black body and rosewood fret board, but it seems to work well on this guitar. It's difficult to see it in the pictures, but Mystic black is like a metal-flake.

New design case, new pups, new "rubberized" knobs, new heel contour, new compound neck shape, new neck design, all make for a really nice guitar. I am extremely satisfied. I actually drove up to Sweetwater in Ft Wayne to get it (along with a couple of other guitars), and it was well worth the trip. :D

Thanks!

Yeah, I went to gearfest last year, it was fantastic, and I hope to go again this year. :D

I also picked up a Taylor 6-string acoustic, and a Fender Road Worn 50s. Both excellent guitars, and the Road Worn actually has a better worn fret board as compared to the first versions, much more natural looking.

BTW, I went with the intention of getting only the Taylor and the Elite, and the Road Worn purchase was the result of a sudden attack of GAS when I saw the improved fret board appearance.

shimmilou - congrats; all nice pieces. That Road Worn is really nice. I do believe you're the first with an American Elite.

Tell me a bit more about that neck shape - does it morph into a really chunky D, or does it just kind of flatten out compared to the modern C? I normally don't get along with D-shaped necks, but I'm really curious about these.

The mystic black looks really nice on yours. I'm also really liking that color on the Tele with a maple board - I like the black pickguard on the Tele; I kind of wish they had gone with the black pickguard/plastics on the Strat as well.

The D shape section is not chunky at all, just noticeably a bit bigger than the C (depth wise), and the transition is so gradual that I don't really notice if I move up the neck slowly. It seems to give me a bit better grip when playing on the higher frets. If I move up the neck faster, I notice the increase in size. My Hot Rod 62 neck is much more chunky than the D section of the Elite. It is funny that you mention it, but I was thinking of maybe changing the pg to black also.

Yeah BB, I thought about you on the way back. It is a long drive, and I was ready to get back home for a nap.

I hear ya Shimmilou
I was in Indy for my lovely biyearly continuing education for my State Bonding license Last summer
After 8 hours of BORING lectures all i wanted was my own pillow and familiar faces

I did hang out at Weber Speakers on the way down for about an hour in Kokomo (worth it and then some) !

PS I never could love the roadworn due to the funky distressed necks either
That one looks MUCH better !!!

Thanks for the review - I'm going to have to try one of these when I get the chance.

I just realized that I had this pup configuration diagram in the case. It helps explain the S1 options. With the switch on, all positions are beefier, and really great when using distortion. I like these settings better than the previous versions of the S1 with the "special capacitor".

I just noticed that they put the truss rod adjustment back down in the neck pocket area again
Interesting !!! I'm guessing it leads to less striping of the nut when heavy handed folks crank on em.

Love to hear some clips from the Elite some time

Thanks for the info. The S1 is the same for my 2013.

Couple of nice acquisitions there, Shimi!
Cool!
Enjoy!

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
