Just wondering what kinds of info you guys might have on this guitar and its electronics
Traded some amp work and my HWY-1 one for it

The non staggered poles in the pickups and the somewhat mysterious TBX circuit have a very strange flavor for someone used to Texas Specials and Custom Shop 54's

Nice one; it's a 1996 though since it has that "50th Anniversary of Fender" decal on the headstock. Since it's an "N5" its probably from early 1996.

The pickups are just the American Standard alnico Vs; I don't know the specs but back then all 3 pickups were the same output (after they went to the "Delta Tone" the bridge pickup was slightly overwound, and remained that way until they switched to the Fat 50s in 2012). The TBX should be wired to the middle and bridge pickups.

This article from Premier Guitar is a very good description of the TBX:

Yes, very nice!

I don't mind the 90's p/ups, but they're easily sorted, aren't they?!

What about the TBX? I have one on my '93 Plus and I can't really hear any appreciable difference on the half- to fully-clockwise travel. Perhaps it's my ears - I am getting on a bit and the tinnitus doesn't help!

Cheers - Peter.

The effect does indeed seem very subtle, someone remarked that the middle and bridge combo position made it more apparent.

My granddaughter is asleep in my living room so i can't try it right now.

There certainly is a difference in the level poles as compared to the staggered poles in overall tone.

Pulled out my old novatron studio flashes for some cool pics, sadly time took its toll on my cool background and so all i have is a huge off white fabric one

You can alter the dynamics of the pickups by lowering or raising them to taste.
Lowering them will give you a little more sustain and raising them, will give you a little more attack.

If you are asking, Fender used flat pole piece pickups from the '70s until the introdcution of the American Series Stratocaster. This was the guitar which replaced the American Standard. I often call the American Standard "the guitar that saved Fender."

I have fallen for the tone of the neck pickup on this guitar.
Sweet rich tone ! It is a perfect match to my Super reverb, I'm afraid it would be a sound that would haunt me if i let it go, Yeah buddy it is that good.

Just what i need is another not for sale guitar !!!

In case you didn't notice, there's some TBX (etc.) info on another topic: viewtopic.php?f=6&t=100510

The BlueGuitar TBX mod (on page 2) might be something worth trying, if you still feel the pups are plain

Thanks jmattis
I found that a proper setup and pickup height adjustment took this guitar out of the plain jane status and right into the I gotta keep it !!!

Now I have the perfect vintage Bell tones on my 2004 50th with 54 CS pickups and this 1996 50th with what i would call warmer but with solid low end punch, obviously hotter pickups.
