To me, any guitar is female. I hold it against my own body and finger it to hear it moan or scream... So it's definitely a female thing.

On the other hand, I usually see English speaking people referring to teir cars as female... In my culture, your car is seen more like a friend, a male thing.

Go figure.

I rather like it. After all the moaning that a right handed Hendrix Strat should be an upside down left handed guitar (with all the issues of having the knobs in the wrong place) that looks like a great compromise to me,

I wouldn't buy one though. It goes back to "The Edge" discussion in that my only interest is including elements which might influence the tone. Looking more like an upside down guitar is just going to make you look more like a wannabe. It does have an ugly charm though.

Thanks for the joke Alain...although it seems to have taken a bit of a serious turn!

John..I agree with you that what matters is "..including elements which might influence the tone."

I thought the Hendrix Strat had a reversed tilt Bridge Pickup...that would be a major tonal difference...

...is this a Hendrix model?...I'd be interested in any opinions...certified or otherwise...

...on the matter of a Guitars Sexual Orientation...none of mine has become pregnant...

...after all this talk..I'll probably check often!
...

I've always based the sex of the guitar on the name I give it. And I name a guitar based on looks, sound, and attitude.

Of my 3 MIM Strats, and 1 Strat copy; I have 2 boys, and 2 girls. I have never named the Squire Bullet.

Of my 4 acoustics; I also have 2 boys, and 2 girls.

Then again...it is quite possible that it is all in my head. 8)

Can a strat be female?

A strat can be used every day of the month.
A strat will stop making noise when you stop paying attention.
A strat won't mind if you come home with another strat.

Using this guide, two of my Strats are male and the 3rd is female. The MIM with Lace 50s golds has a very consistent tone and feel as does the HSS MIM. But the one AmStd loves to be perverse unless I'm very nice to it ... it can go out of tune when I look at it or hold like a rock. I can get the sweetest sounds out of it but sometimes it feels like sounding like a $10 guitar played though a $5 amp. No idea why but based on that one having a temperament all it's own, it's a female.

Curious thing is, I've never mentioned any of this to my girlfriend but of all my guitars, the one she likes most (in terms of my playing it/the sound coming out) is the MIM/50s Lace. I'd say is the most male, but in a very laid back, self assured sense (if that can be applied to a guitar???), of all the Strats. The ones she likes the least are the AmStd (fickle female) and my SG (which could be viewed as my aggressive male).

Crazy but seemingly true ... twilight zone material for sure ...

You might be onto something there. She (girlfriend, not guitar :) isn't all that keen on my lap steel (I'm reasonable, not great) playing. It's not her kind of music. It would take me too many years to regain my skills on violin and she doesn't like classical anyway. Loves my guitar playing but Jazz really isn't her thing and she can only take a little Blues. ... so yeah maybe ... mandolin it is!

She does like modern country but not if twangy or too rock-like. I guess I could work mandolin into that somehow. The one genre I can play that she'll listen to all night long is anything from the late 50s - early 60s (pick the melody over the rhythm). So hey ... now I'm curious as to how a mandolin version of such classics as Wipe Out, House of the Rising Sun and all those might sound.

I started playing surf and Beatles back in around 67 so this might be full circle and now I'm even on the right ("left") coast for it :) I'd just have to change my business cards to something like "Dr. K ... Mandolin Dude!"

Now go on ahead & finish the song while it's fresh...

Sounds to me like you've identified the problem.
