I would LOVE to get a USA made Fender strat ..with the smaller headstock....rosewood fingerboard and most of all....Fiesta red color!....Fender only seems to want to do this color on custom shop models or very limited runs and/or with a maple fingerboard apparently, but it's such a cool shade...very vintage and could look incredible relic'd or left just the way it is, and the darker rosewood fingerboard accents it beautifully.....How about it Fender? Can you add this color option to the USA Standards? (The Classic 50's has that color, but has a maple fingerboard and isn't USA made, I don't think.) Thanks.

A no-brainer.

Buy a '50s Classic Strat in FRED then buy a '60s Classic Strat (any color will do).

Swap the necks and pickguards.

Problem solved.

Seriously, I tend to agree. The colour range on AmStd's is very limited (certainly in UK) unless you can pick up one of the special runs secondhand. Why do the non-US Strats get nicer colours?!

I have a CS Custom Deluxe in Fiesta Red and it's ageing beautifully, taking on that vaguely pinky/orangey shade, although would it do so in poly? Whatever, agreed it's a great colour and this guitar is going nowhere!

I love the old colours and I'm currently trying to find a surf green US Strat that doesn't cost £2k from the CS. Will probably have to bite the bullet, though, as I think you may have to...

Cheers - Peter.

You can add me to the list of those who feel the colour range on American Standard's is very limited but at the same time I'm wondering if we can ever be satisfied even if the AmStd were available in all 111 colors on the 2015 Custom Shop color chart. Remember when there were only two flavours of ice cream and we were happy? LOL.

Cheers!

I agree on the color options. Even if you couldn't get it on the American Standards, color choice should be broader with at least the American Design Experience. Regardless, you can buy instruments direct from Fender on here, so it would be nice if you could get more choices from the color chart (especially vintage-style colors like Sea Foam Green, Daphne Blue, Fiesta Red, etc.). I know some of those colors are available on other series and I don't expect the full color range, but it's a little frustrating to think that I'd have to shell out thousands for the Custom Shop to still get a Strat with American Standard specs with the only difference being a color.

It'd be one thing if I wanted something like Cobalt Blue Transparent or something like that, but to have Bordeaux and Ocean Blue Metallic as the only non-grayscale/non-burst color options on the American Standards doesn't appeal to me. I think Bordeaux looks nice, but those two seem like odd choices. The American Design Experience isn't much better in that regard with Lake Placid Blue and Candy Apple Red being the only two choices, but at least those two are probably pretty popular given how many different series on which they both appear.

If there are any members with paint shop experience on a production level, I would be curious to learn just how much is involved in changing colours during a run. From a layperson's point of view - i.e. mine included - it may seem to be a simple matter of changing the bucket but I suspect it's a lot more involved.

Cheers!

Exactly. A surf green AmStd would do me! There was a '13 model on eBay (UK) a while ago, presumably an FSR, but they're rare over here. I've also seen an '01 but don't want the fretwear!

The only advantage with CS (for me) is the nitro finish, which is nice, but it's a heavy price to pay for it. The other solution is to refinish, accepting the hit in value. I have a refin (nitro) sonic blue Strat Plus, and it sounds/looks wonderful. I don't care about the value because I've had it 25 years and won't be selling!

Every time you change colour the guns should be cleaned at a component level. This takes time and cleaning materials.

I don't know if they mix colours in house or buy in. Either way, once a colour is live it will deteriorate and you would ideally want to use all of the colour in a batch.

Swapping colours wastes paint in both cleaning down and priming the guns after a swap.

So, any colour change will cost money in both materials and time.

Location: In a house....unless I'm at work....then I'm in a shop.
I just want to throw this out there as an alternative.....

There is a company on e-bay called Stratosphere, they sell strat parts, they take guitars apart and part them out.

They have a American Fender body for sale with the two pin tremolo, the reduced heal neck joint with the hardware in Fiesta Red for 449.
You will need a pick guard and pick ups and a neck, and they have all that stuff, you can pick and choice the model and fretboard you want from there stock.
Like I said, they buy Fender guitars and part them out.
Buy what you want, and either put it together yourself or take it to your local Fender approved Luther and have them assemble and set it up.

Since the parts they sell are all made by Fender, you will end up with a Fender Guitar.....just a real special one.

Those are really nice, but not everyone is going to be adventurous enough to attempt to build their own Stratocaster. Speaking just for myself, that's not something I would like to attempt.

Again, even if they weren't available on the regular American Standards, it seems like the American Design Experience could do with some added selection. You can still build an American Standard-spec Strat there, and even though it'll set you back a few hundred extra dollars over regular American Standards, that's a much easier pill to swallow than several thousand dollars.

I know you don't want to add too many features to the American Design experience (like nitro finishes, different fret sizes, etc.), but would more colors really be that difficult?

Nice collection you've got there Arjay.
Really digging the vintage vibe.
Blonde and gold is one of my favourites.
A couple of bound necks there as well ... they are hard to come by for sure. :D

I refuse to take "no" for an answer.

If/when Fender can't build it, I'll do it myself.

No compromise, no surrender.
