I personally think both fellows above make potentially true statements but it depends on the string set used. Most folks today use nickel plated steel wound string sets. It that case a wound string could very well generate a stronger change in the magnetic field over the pole. I use pure nickel wound strings myself because I find they sound better to my ears. In my case I suspect a decrease in the changing magnetic field would result if I were to switch to a wound 3rd.
