LOL. I agree to some extent with the comments above but consider a guitar as something different to a material possession. The value is not something to be reveled in but an irrelevance. A guitar is all about where it takes you.

Lol exactly.
Guitars and other instruments, especially wooden instruments are not just material possessions. Since no two same peaces of wood exist so there's no two guitars that are the same. And also it's an instrument with heavy personality, the fact that they (acoustics specially) change their sound and resonance according to the one who plays em (in time) it's enough not to be just a material posesion.
I listened to Mark Knopfler and the words that struck me is when he spoke about the relationship with a guitar, guitar is a friend for life, no matter if you strike it big as a rock star or not, it's a friend you can turn to, such as the Blues, people made guitars from virtually anything so they can push trouble away trough a song.
To close my rant, in my belief when it comes to music and music instruments it's all about emotion, not perfection, if a true and meaningful emotion is transferred to the one who listens to it it's good music.
For example
Was Johnny Cash the best singer NO
Was he a great guitarist NO
Did he delivered YES
Did he touched millions and influenced millions YES
...and so on
Was a SRV a great singer NO
Was he a great guitarist YES
Did he had perfect understanding of music theory NO
Was he complete and brilliant Absolutely YES
Did he touched you with notes and words yes.
Same goes for many others.
Now, you may listen to shreaders with ungodly speed but do YOU feel something else than respect for the craft and virtuosity? I personally don't.

It sad to see the world become so material that all that matters is what we have and not what we do for others or the lack of spiritual awareness when all that matters is what we have or what we're going to get instead of what we can do for others or even ourselves on a higher level. I think it's sad to see people so attached to material things when to world falls apart around us and all we care about is "my new guitar" the greed is nauseating.

It depends on how one looks at the material object itself.

-My guitar(s) help me create art.
-They help me express myself when mere words (or lyrics) do not suffice.
-They are a form of therapy, a form of escape.
-When I customize or modify them, I am (again) expressing my taste and personality, in an unobtrusive manner that doesn't hurt anyone else.
-When I play or record certain songs, they allow me to reach or connect to another person in a spiritual sense, even if don't know them or converse directly with them.
-Some of them are works of art (in and of themselves), and can be appreciated in that manner as well.
-They assist in bringing me closer to other people--friends and bandmates that I play music with, and strangers who approach me to discuss music, instruments, etc.

Even if a person amasses a collection of instruments solely for the purpose of owning or displaying them, it's not your place to question or correct them. That's self-righteous pride and arrogance or your part, which is also sinful (just as much as avarice and materialism)

My 2012 American Standard with it's 50's custom shop pickups is a true Love. I would sell almost everything before I let my Strat go. I have never owned a guitar more beautiful Mystic Red Stunning at 7.3lbs, light as a feather but can Rock with ANYTHING thrown at it. the Maple neck and fretboard fit my hand like a glove and it quickly cured me of my Reverend addiction. Nice Korean guitar but just doesn't hold a candle to my 2012 American Standard.

Yep, and even though this is the Strat section, my "loved one" is a Telecaster.

A 1995 hecho-en-Mexico Fender Telecaster, modded to have a P90 in the neck position, a four-way switch, and a Fender No-Load Tone Pot. Vintage White (read: semi-see-through Blonde) finish, maple neck and fingerboard, and a reddish-brown tortoiseshell pickguard.

Sounds, feels and looks amazing.

There is nothing wrong with having a guitar you "love" as long as your priorities are in order. materialism is a huge problem throughout the world but loving a guitar doesn't have to interfere with your spiritual nature. It's a matter of priorities and for those Vets like myself who gave parts of their bodies in a war in which we had no business starting and spend 24hrs a day inside 4 walls your guitar is a special thing to you. (something you will never know) but it doesn't interfere with my relationship with God. perhaps you need to join another forum. may I recommend the Baha'i website? By the way your attitude is nauseating.

I'm confused...you quoted and refuted yourself...were you talking to yourself?
If so, is your name Henry Jekyll?
Were you directing one of us (or all of us) to the Baha'i website?

I agree Stevens. I've seen people on guitar forums say they just sit and stare at their guitar because it's so beautiful.
A guitar is a tool. It's a thing. I don't feel love for it.
Perhaps it's a bit of hyperbole - O.P. also said they were "addicted" to a compound radius neck. Sounds like creative writing to me.

Oh and don't mind "Preachin' Armadillo". He corrected you by saying it's not your place to correct others ... kind of self defeating there eh?

I have been playing about 7 years. I have purchased sold and traded at least 2 dozen guitars. Early on I purchased a Highway 1 Tele. This has become my favorite by a mile. I have even purchased other Highway 1s and either sold or returned them. They weren't the same. Now I am down to the H1
and American Std Strat and I just purchased a Elite Tele. Im hoping this is it. There is alot of feedback about the elite. mostly about the neck adjust. It does not bother me. I like the Neck design and the tone. its a beautiful guitar. Its a great fit for me.

Late last year, I bought a Parts Telecaster for $500. It was built by a local musician who passed away a couple of years ago. I'm an inveterate tinkerer, so I replaced the pick-ups with Lollar Special T's, upgraded the electronics and installed a set of Schaller locking tuners. Then, since I've long been curious about the extra thin Wizard necks that Ibanez uses on some of their models, I bought a Tele Wizard from Warmouth Guitars and swapped it out. This worked out so well, it's become my go to guitar. I probably play it 95% of the time. The neck seems to fit my left hand perfectly and the Lollers are as snappy as anything you're likely to hear. Total cost: less than $1,000.
