The USA Professional is a special model for Guitar Center/Musician's Friend that is somewhat in-between the American Special and the American Standard. The body and trem are basically American Special specs, such as the same 6-screw vintage-style trem as the American Special. The neck is the American Standard shape (small headstock and medium jumbo frets); I've always thought that the American Special and American Standard necks feel a bit different; the American Professionals feel like American Standards to me - but that could just be the frets. American Professionals do not have the micro-tilt neck adjustment, and I don't believe they have the bi-flex truss rod.

The other hardware is unique to the American Professional - they use a version of the old alnico American Standard pickups for the single coils (they are described as being "hot", so they might be the old American Standard bridge pickups instead of the old neck/middle pickups; the old bridge pickups were slightly overwound compared to the other two); the humbucker is described as a "custom" pickup so no one really knows just what it is. The American Professional does have the S-1 switch, but it is a coil split for the humbucker like the MIM Deluxe Lonestar Strat. I don't know if the American Professional has the staggered-height tuners or the single-height tuners like the American Specials.

American Standards (since March 2012) use Fender Custom Shop Fat 50s single coils, and the HSS versions now have the Shawbucker humbucker and a special "double" volume pot so the single coils see a 250k pot and the humbucker sees a 500k pot. The older version of the American Standard HSS is still around; it has the Fender Diamondback humbucker along with the Fat 50s. American Standards have staggered-height tuners, the micro-tilt neck adjustment, and the bi-flex truss rod.

Beyond that American Standards come with a hard case (these days it's usually the molded plastic case, but it could be either the G&G tolex or the Pro Series tolex case) and the full accessory kit (strap, cable, polish cloth) while American Professionals come with a gig bag, the trem arm and the allen wrenches only.

Thanks for the explanation, John. Before reading this I would have assumed by the name that the USA Professional was a new Fender model. In a sense I suppose it is but wouldn't the label FSR or Guitar Center/Musician's Friend FSR be more appropriate given that it is sold exclusively at these two retail outlets?

Cheers!

True; these are FSRs for GC/MF. I guess after I typed all the model descriptions I wasn't in the mood to explain what "FSR" means to the OP, who although he joined years ago has never posted before. It seemed easier just to say "special model".
