You're not going to get a very good response for this question on a Fender forum as that constitutes copyright infringement.

Don't like to party poop, but I do agree with that.

And on a point of personal pride, if you built that guitar (or screwed it together, anyway) why not put your own name on the headstock? Work out a nice logo for yourself: I believe it is possible to get your own waterslide decal made up, though I don't know details on that.

After all, if anyone who knows about guitars takes a look at it they are not going to be fooled for a second by one of those generic pirate decals. Where's the serial number? Where are the right marks on the heel? The only people who might be taken in by a fake CS are those who don't really know what it means.

Sorry: don't like to squelch a first poster. Welcome to the Forum :?

Okay, I am going to take a different tack as long as we are not fooling anyone for a monetary gain...

Really, what's the harm? 99% of all people who see him with it will casually think it is a real Fender. He is not trying to pass it off as fake for re-sale on eBay or a pawn shop. And even if he did, he would get lit up by the ebayers and pawn-shop owners looking for signs of fakery who know much better.

Personally, though, I am okay with this ONLY IF the emblem does represent the bulk of components. If not, it is like putting Cobra emblems on your V6 Ford Mustang. Cheesy ...

Not casting aspersions upon the OP, who I am sure is honest as the day is long, but a careful look at Ebay shows just where the harm is. As well as posts here on the Forum, where people show pics of dodgy looking headstocks and ask if they got ripped off - usually, yes, they did.

In addition to which, it does happen to be illegal - I know that sounds prudish of me.

But mostly, just as you say, it's simply cheesy. Like sticking a BMW badge on a bottom of the range Subaru - who are you kidding? Like I said, have some pride...

Cheers

First off, it is like sticking a BMW badge on ANY Subaru. That is downtown Cheese City. For sure, agreed.

But - to continue the metaphor - what if I am pieceing together a car comprised mostly of BMW parts including the body and engine? Hmmm, not so cheesy then to use a Bimmer badge, right?

Getting close! :D

And if you were doing that job then you'd be so mechanically brilliant to my automotively ignorant brain that I'd want to see your badge on that machine. You built it, you deserve the credit!

Stand up and take the bow you've earned - why give some corporation the credit for your hotrod?

So long - C

Like it or not, this seemingly simple act constitutes copyright infringement and hence it's certainly not something you'll find assistance with here.
