Let me begin by saying that I have medium size hands -no jokes please  I went to Guitar Center this afternoon and picked up a used American Standard Stratocaster. It felt phenomenal in my hand. I could get up and down the neck with ease. All chords were coming to me it seemed with little effort. This is not the case with beefier necks.

Anyone ever had a similar experience? Have you ever picked up "the one" guitar that felt like it was a perfect fit? What did you do? Do you have any regrets either way whether purchasing it or not? Thanks.

That is how this is supposed to happen the guitar screams at you, buy me, and if you don't, and its not there when you go back, you have regrets. My 2012 American Standard Stratocaster screamed don't leave here without me, so I grabbed it took her home and have been in love with it since February of 2013, and have no regrets

When it feels right, sounds right, and looks right, it IS right.

That's just the subliminal message in the music played through the store speakers.

I have relitively smallish hands. I played a '79 Strat that had a very slim neck. It felt wonderful to play this guitar.

As Par usual, Mr Arjay has hit the nail on the head here. I would just like to add too his comment to say he has it in the correct order as well. Feel is everything, sound and tone is right behind it.
There is a custom shop video where there show how they tone match the neck and body woulds to balance the guitar. The custom shop has time to do this, I doubt in the normal production shop they do this, so it's more the luck of the draw.
That is why I would say, don't get too hung up on how it looks, if it plays and sounds and feels great, ignore how it looks, it will grow on you.

Just my 2 cents worth.

The Strat is black and white. It will not win a beauty contest. She has some mileage under her strings, that's for sure. Of course I have a 1990 F150 Ford truck that has dents from end to the other; I call it character. Let's just say that I'm not hung up on the appearance. It felt so AMAZING, and sounded incredible, at least to my ears.

The only thing that disturbs me is that there is small, very small chip that has come off the fret board about the third fret down. It is right along the edge of the fret board that meets the side of the neck. Like I said, it's a used guitar. The salesmen wants $700.00 for it. Thought I might used the cosmetic chip in my favor to get a little more off the cost.

You should be able to leverage that chip into a fifty-dollar discount.

And if it's a maple fretboard, I strongly recommend getting that chip filled and lacquered. If it goes into the wood, it can suck up moisture from your hand, and more serious problems can occur down the road.
If it's rosewood, just sand it down a little so you don't hurt yourself, and wipe it with some fretboard oil.

Yes, it is maple. A good friend of mine who works at a local guitar store told me the same thing. He recommended that we fill it in as well.

Haven't put it layaway yet, waiting for some more funds to arrive. Just hope it is not gone when I secure enough to store it away. Not holding my breath b/c I know my luck. Thinking about donating plasma. Hey, that's a good name for a Strat, PLAZ 8)

I am the same way. I have found that the 9.5 radius is the best fit for me. Fortunately, Fender has made the 9.5 radius a standard for their fair share of guitars, including Acoustics.

Always stick with the "C" profile neck as well.
