Hi,

Can you please help me identify my strat.
I bought it ~2000.
It was a vintage series strat.
I've changed the pickguard from white to ivory and the bridge pickup to a humbacker.

Obviously, "Crafted in Japan" = MIJ. The serial number dates it to 1996-1997, and I'd guess 1997, since it has the V(+ six digits) serial with the "Crafted", which was replacing "Made" at the time.
The model version is easiest to check; just take the neck off and see what the stamps in the neck and neck pocket say.
You should find something like "ST-62 110" - that would read ST = Stratocaster, 62 = the model year it imitates, 110 = 110000¥; telling the original price class.
Those, plus possible additional letters/words get you/us a lot further on the identification and specs.

+1

I'm guessing that the neck-pocket stamp will read "ST-54X" due to the maple fretboard and round string tree, and the relatively featureless grain of the body suggests basswood composition.

Got to agree with Arjay on this one. Let us know what you find, always good to know for sure.
