It's here we go again time, however, not wanting to be a parade rainer consider this....

If it comes to pass as a Tribute Series guitar, and it's THE BLACK STRAT they do, from past practices, I would bet that you're going to need '25 Large' to put that baby under your bed. Consider the Van Halen as something along the same lines for comparison.

G'Nite!

I have no idea whether it is to be an Artist series or a Tribute. But I did read in a magazine article last year Dave Gilmour mentioning that he wanted it to be a player's guitar, like the EC or EJ, rather than a collector's item. (It’s a good attitude: Gilmour regularly plays his Strat #0001, after all.) Which would suggest an Artist model. Who knows, maybe they'll do both, in time? From the vast amount of blather on the subject, there'd be a lot of sales in that...

But if it's to be a Tribute, then presumably it will be a replica of the guitar as it is today, rather than an earlier incarnation. Given the levels of fidelity the Custom Shop is now attaining, that is going to mean routing it for a Kahler, and then filling that route again with timber of the right grain, drilling invisible holes inside the body, etc, etc. Perhaps they’ll ritually swap necks in and out, to try and generate supernatural vibrations from the original.

When the Blackie Tribute came out someone commented wryly that this sort of thing was the guitar equivalent of stalking. Verging on the creepy…

Now, that's interesting information. If that's right, then it is going to be in the Artist series: good news for everybody except alainlafrance. So, let's see then if it takes its place alongside the EC and EJ as a definative interpretation of the instrument, or ends up just another sig.

I wonder what neck profile the current Gilmour Black Strat has - anyone know? For some reason I think of this as one of your areas of expertise, ZZDoc...

currently David has an 57' reissue neck on the black strat so it would be V-shape

abouth the Artist/custom shop model i think they will make both

i know there will be an Custom Shop model
how do i know that?
When David was guest playing at Ron Geesin's show in Cardogan Hall (He was there to play Atom Heart Mother) he had brought with him a prototybe black strat (Check David Gilmours blog for that information) and as you can clearly see in this video at around 0.29 the guitar is an Custom Shop model

(watch in high quality)

Woah, how did I miss that? I live about two miles from the Cadogan Hall: it's a really nice venue to see all kinds of concerts in. (Saw a tribute to Buddy Rich there a few months ago - but that's a whole different website forum...)

Cheers - C

Had a look at the concert video. We see a black finish, vintage maple neck, three SC's? with white covers, a short trem handle. A vintage '57 neck would be consistent with the #1 strat...but there's also the red guitar wit the EMG's, and his equivalent of a "Frankenstein".

Seems to me we'll just have to wait and see what kind of a composite package he has come up with that he feels justified in signing his name to and saying, this is what I would choose to play through to create my music.

Patience!

.......and, while we are enjoying this opportunity together.....take a moment to remember 'The Fallen.'
