The battery on my Roadhouse Deluxe only lasts a couple of days....even when turned off when not in use ...is this normal? Anyone else have this problem?

Do you leave the guitar plugged in all the time? The on/off switch is actually in the output jack; plugging it in turns the circuitry "on"; the S-1 switch is actually bypass, not an on/off switch.

Even so, 3 days sounds pretty short for battery life.

Bet that's it! I leave it on the wall with the cable to the amp plugged in constantly . Didn't realise it was switched on ! Cheers John

Leaving the cable plugged in will definitely kill the battery. I un plug the cable from mine after I use it, and have replaced the battery once lince Last December.

+1

It's an "open" circuit just like the old wah pedals.

Clapton owners learned that lesson decades ago. After all these years I'm surprised there's no reference in the owners guide, to unplugging the cable when not in use. Do the same between sets when playing out.

Hi Gang,

This looks like a good place to post these questions, rather than start a new thread.
I'm considering getting a Deluxe Roadhouse Stratocaster, primarily because I'm looking for a 22 fret Strat, to use for gigging out, and to leave my vintage ones at home. The frets were one consideration, the other thing I find attractive about these is the six position preamp switch. Getting more tonal options out of a guitar is always a welcome proposition to me. So the questions I'd like to ask of the current owners of these guitars would be:

Do you like these guitars through more modern amps or older ones more, (i.e. Which type of amps sound better with these guitars to your ears)?

Would you consider modifying this guitar in any way, and if so, what would you do to it?

Do you feel these guitars would hold up to a busy show schedule night after night?

Is there anything you can see or think of that would be a downside to this guitar for live gigs?

Since GC near my area doesn't have any of this model in stock, I'm going to have to reply on feedback from those who own one to help me decide if this is the next Stratocaster I really want to buy.
Thanks in advance for any input you can offer.

You've noticed that one doesn't find many of these upscale models on the wall. Ask the manager if he'll order the model you want, purchase subject to approval. If you don't like it, I'm sure some one will. I was once given that option with a Jeff Beck model.

I love how mine sounds through a Hot Rod Deluxe, and it also sounds great with any amp modeled in the Mustang III or a Peavey Vypyr VIP 3. I like it best through the Fendewr tube amp, followed by any of the Fender models in the Mustang, then the Classic 50 and Budda models in the Peavey. It sounds good through the high gain models as well, but they are not my thing.

Would you consider modifying this guitar in any way, and if so, what would you do to it?
I put Fender locking tuners on it and replaced the stock string trees with roller trees.
Do you feel these guitars would hold up to a busy show schedule night after night?
I don't see why not. Seems to be a good solidly built guitar.
Is there anything you can see or think of that would be a downside to this guitar for live gigs?
Nothing that I can think of.

Hey ZZ,

Around here, they have the attitude that you should buy what they have on hand in the store, they start hmmm-ing and haw-ing about when they can put in an order, and then it'll take 4-6 weeks from that point before it gets here. That's why I hate dealing with GC.

Hey ErikM,

I appreciate the feedback. I'm not accustomed to shopping for a guitar without actually playing it first. It sounds like a good one to have on hand that can take the place of a few Strats in one shot.

If I did put locking tuners on it, and they are staggered posts, I wouldn't use any string trees at all. That de-stabilizes the tuning, ( a lesson learned with my 1980 "STRAT").

Thanks again. I might just order one through Sweetwater just to avoid the whining at GC.

Hell....it's not one of Fender's $2K+ guitars. It falls right into the 'garbage on the wall category'. Well...if they're the only game in town... make them an offer they can't refuse. "This is what I want". "Now....you can either place the order....take the shot that I'll like the guitar and buy it....put the commission in your own pocket....or lose the deal to Fender[ or another local vendor] from whom I'll buy it directly." "Now you have to ask yourself.....'Do I feel lucky?' "

This lesson concerns every person owning any Fender guitar fitted with active electronics, not necessarily an artist signature series.
