My Roadhouse Strat has developed a problem with the dual volume control. Suddenly it will only operate on the preamp when the middle switch is out for normal Strat tones little volume and VERY fuzzy tone. Any ideas....if I need to access wiring how do I get to it? If I need a new switch (although only a year old) where do I get one. Any help gratefully received.
Cheers
Rod

Yes ...sorry ...its the Deluxe with a battery driven preamp and the volume knob has a push button in the centre that activates the preamp to give the extra sounds governed by the six way tone control. My pickups now suddenly only work when the middle switch is pushed down to operate the pre amp. Oddly if I remove the battery and thus the power to the pre amp it still only functions with the middle depressed and I can't obtain any normal "Strat" tones. Which are the tones I use most !

Unless your Deluxe Roadhouse is wired differently than mine, when the S-1 switch is depressed, the pre-amp is bypassed, and you are getting the pure pickup tone. If the S-1 is in the up position, it is going through the pre-amp and 6 way switch. I just plugged in my Strat and pulled the battery. With the S-1 switch down, normal sound from the pickups. With the S-1 in the up position, no sound. I would suggest trying a fresh battery first, and if that doesn't help, there may be a loose wire or something wrong with the circuit board. Definitely try a battery first....it's a lot cheaper than taking it to be worked on.

Glad to hear you got it back to normal. I love my Roadhouse. The only problem I have ever had with it was a stray thread of solder on one of the pots that completely killed volume and tone. No matter how the tone on the guitar or amp was set, or the volume, it sounded like it was being played in a 55 gallon drum of jello. The tech at the shop I bought it from cleaned up all the solder joints and it's been great ever since.

I'm not familiar with this model. Does it use a battery? If so, I would say that the battery needs to be replaced. If not, check the contact points for the selecter switch, clean the pots and check the wiring. All of these things are easy fixes.

Let me rephrase the question. What was the actual part that was malfunctioning and the solution?

I would say it was most likely just the battery, since it worked properly with the pre-amp bypassed.
