Hi all.

So, I was out today, looking for a reverb pedal that doesn't suck. I have been looking for one for a couple months now, but it seems all the new ones ore digital and, well they all seem to sound the same......it just doesn't sound like a tube amp spring reverb.
One of my more favorite places in Portland is old town music, if it's old or odd, they are the place to find it.
So I drop by and ask to try a couple pedals out, and I made my first mistake, I forgot to bring my guitar with me. (I had a meeting earlier in the morning) . So I set up on a amp close to the one I have and grab a low end beat up strat to try it them out, and none of them really worked how I wanted.
BUT, as I was playing around with that strat, I found the neck was really nice, it was dirty (Like it had never been cleaned) but not a relic beat up, just grungy. The neck had some flame and brids eye in it, and then I saw, it was a USA model, and they only wanted 450 bucks and, well...............

So, a search for a pedal turned into NGD for me, and after two hours of scrubbing, cleaning the electrical and a new set of strings, I have a nice guitar it seems. The trem block is steel and the pick ups are American Texas specials single coils with a fender Texas special humbucker
in the bridge.
It has a neck a bit larger then most, not SRV but but nice all the same.

A mighty fine specimen in nicely-aged Oly White.

Great score!

8)

I see that as a California Series Strat. The serial in the pic is too small to read, but guessing it starts AMXN7, which would be 1997.
Those were sort of the "pre-Highway One" models - the story is US parts to Mexico for the paint job, to US assembly...

BTW, it looks real nice.

+1

Precisely.

IIRC, these instruments were only briefly available, and in a limited selection of finishes (red, white, and black).

It reads as a 1997 and yes a California model, I have heard some of it was done in Mexico, but it must not be very much as it says made in USA, that would mean that is has to have at least 80% made here.

I did lift the pick guard and the pick ups and pots are modern American, so it's a great guitar either way.

As to the color, it's antique white.

Apparantly the guitars were made during the 97-98 period. They started out as a body at the USA factory made with US. parts and were then shipped off to the Mexico Paint factory which had just recently been built. Once the guitars were finished (paint wise) they were shipped back to the U.S. to be assembled.

As far as I know this seems to checkout. All Guitar parts are U.S. and the only participation the Mexican factory had in it's creation was the paint job. That is why on the headstock It says "Made In The USA".

The price you paid look the average street price.

First I want to emphasize that I do not judge a guitar by where it's made, and especially when talking about US/MIM the about 150 miles distance means nothing to me...

But: Above I called the "US parts&assembly but painted in Mexico" a story, because the situation is actually a bit unclear - Fender (as usual) doesn't give out very specific info.
One thing to note: if the necks of this series were made in America, it's one of the very few (if not the only?) with a plastic truss rod plug.

Nice guitar and a good score too boot! And the figuring on the back of the neck is a nice bonus!

ENJOY!

Well, I do have one, a Peavey delta stomp. It's a multi function pedal. The three reverb's it has are, okay but you can only use one at a time and I like the rotary speaker emulator it has. (It's like a Leslie speaker) and I have the volume control pedal for it to speed it up and slow it down. And in the wah function, it becomes a wah pedal.
The real issue is it is a 18 volt unit and it has to be plugged in, and it you only get to choose one at a time.

I still want to find a nice sweet sounding stand alone, so I can use the rotary with it.

Not sure if you have tried one, but.. I picked up p a Electro Harmonix Holy Grail NEO a few months ago.

has three different verbs, plate, hall and spring.

most of my amps have reverb but I have one small tweedish (sort of a champ knock off) that doesn't which is what pushed me into buying it. Sounds pretty good with that as well as my acoustic rig.

I have never tried anything from Electro Harmonics, the look of the just looks for Soviet crude.....But I will give one a shot.
