Very nice stash Arjay. I'm working on one myself. I'm with you on the Fed Res, I worked in the banking industry for 23 years. Their "policies" to control the economy will do us in one day!

+1000!

It's why I gave up on US currency and the banking system years ago.

Let the Federal Reserve try and devalue these......

But Arjay, what are you going to spend/trade those shiny pieces of metal for?
I've always looked upon precious metals as kind of a scary investment, considering both the wildly fluctuating market (high of c. $1826.00 in mid-2011, a six year low today of c. $1068.00), and because the higher price of gold reflects a lower value placed upon the dollar.
So if you win (gold goes up), the purchasing power of your investment is less, whereas if you lose (gold goes down), you just lose. Seems a no win situation. Good thing I bought those Asian Banks just before the Chinese kicked the Brits offshore...

You didn't understand a word I wrote, did you NC?

Cash is merely paper. And in the event of a country-wide (or worldwide) calamity, bank accounts are nothing more than ones and zeros in some computer that might not be accessible by an ATM because there's no electricity.

Try buying food, fuel, medicine or ammo with paper money or credit in the midst of a "Soylent Green" scenario.

And in the event that such a panic-driven meltdown never occurs, rest assured I'll be enjoying the earnings of *several* jumbo CD's.

"No win situation"?

I think not.

It's a barter promise backed by a government. Of course, all governments fall sooner or later, and will one day no longer be able to back the cash.
Anyhow, I heard that the government no longer honors the old Silver Certificate bills, so hedging ones bets is a bit harder.

At least cash is better than, say, Bitcoin which is backed by neither material nor governments. It may go up, but it's far riskier.

Bitcoin = pig in a poke......absolutely worthless in a crisis.

At least paper currency could be spooled up and used in a restroom.
