Thanks to the advice given here I fixed my last wiring problem (pickups out of phase) even though the schematic from Seymour Duncan showed different. Come to find out that Fender winds their pickups backwards...go figure. That being the case I was wondering if some of you experts could look at the schematic below and tell me if I can use my two existing 250K pots and install the bridge hotrail (I currently have one mini-humbucker in the neck and a single coil in the bridge) - or should I buy new 500's?

Thanks again in advance!

Bob

There's no rules - do what sounds good to your ears.

But generally most people would favour a 500k pot with higher output pickups, like those in your schematic.

If you try it the other way, let us know what it sounds like, would you?

Cheers Bob (and Shawn - he never gets a mention, does he?)

You could certainly use the 250K pots but your pickups will not have the range that a 500K would give them. Rather, the pickups might sound a bit fizzy, farty and compressed. (This is merely my opinion, YMMV). Notwithstanding, some people do like this though. So, before you go out buying new pots, see if you like the response from what you've got in there first.

Of note: If you do switch to the 500K pots, they are usually mated with a .022 microfarad capacitor. I didn't notice what you currently have in there because the truth is, I'm too lazy to go back and look.LOL

Thanks guys - just wanted to make sure I didn't do any damage so I'll play around.

Ceri - Shawn is the Mrs. She gets plenty of mention in other ways!

Thanks,
Bob

Oops, sorry Shawn!

I have an idea of the kinds of slip-ups you must encounter. My name, Ceri (pronounced Kerry, by the way), is a Welsh name and with the same spelling can be for a fella or a gal. And my wife is called Christine - shortened to Chris. Ceri and Chris: people always get us the wrong way around: endless hilarity. Hey-ho
