Are the Tremolo bar springs just for the Americian Series Strats?
Will they work on any MIM series strats?

I just got a MIM Roadhouse Deluxe Strat and the tremolo bar sure swings loose.
Should I wrap the threads with teflon tape?

Correct.

These springs are "one size fits all" for any vintage-style trem bridge regardless of country of origin.

Are you speaking of the little spring that goes into the hole where you screw in the trem bar? They're easy to lose. Fender sells them from their website and it seems like one size fits all. It's only purpose is to push up the bar to take out some of the play.

Thanks,
Just to clarify, Yes I'm talking about the little spring that drops into the hole where you screw in the trem bar.
I 'll just buy some, I'm not sure the guitar came with one. The trem bar wobbles too much when not screwed in all the way.

I didn't know about it until reading my stuff on my brand new strat. Hey, I didn't get one of those. After careful search with my flashlight, there it was. I think I'll try the jelly thing now. Probably the spring from a ballpoint pen would work in a pinch, but just don't get it stuck.

No IMO , too soft / light. See Fender dealer or hardware store

I contacted Fender when I bought my MIM 60s Strat because I thought I had lost the spring and was told they are not fitted to the MIM.

Correct.

The trem-arm spring is not furnished with the MIM instruments. However the spring will fit these Strats and when purchased separately, are not too expensive. I think they run about nine bucks for a five-pack.

The way I understand it is yes, that's true, but there are two different length strings, with a 2mm difference. While both work, the longer one might feel a bit loose on some models, and the shorter one might feel a bit tight on some other models.
I've also seen a short silver one in the middle and two angled black ones on the sides, which I guess makes sense for stability?

WTF?!?!?

The spring under discussion is roughly two millimeters in diameter and eleven millimeters in length. It drops into the hole in a trem block and when compressed after the arm is screwed into place, provides tension to prevent the arm from swinging haphazardly.

That's what I get for skim-reading and assuming he meant the large springs on the trem block, and not the small springs in the trem block. I stand corrected, mea culpa, I'll do twenty push-ups, et cetera.
