I wish I could see the images I love a good "Is this a fake?" thread.

I'm not an expert, but at a glance, it looks like an American Special. It has the big headstock, vintage bridge, jumbo frets (I think), serial# looks legit, etc. Check Fender's site for the serial# verification. They can tell you about the guitar.

I'm sure someone will provide the link as these questions come up all the time.

Serial number checks out as an American Special (renamed Highway One):
This image appears from that SN search
Image

Large headstock, two string trees with one on a slight angle (mine is the same way), walnut plug for the truss rod adjustment, blank neckplate, 6-screw bridge.
Pop the pickguard and you should find the "Greasebucket" tone circuit (extra capacitor and resistor on both tone pots) and the selector is wired to put the tone pots on the bridge and neck instead of the middle and neck.

Yes - American Special - I have one exactly the same! (Except the jumbos - I had it refretted).

Cheers - Peter.

Yep. It's on my '17, and shows on the 2005 update of the Highway One
