..........and that in itself serves the Fender Co. alone, not the customer. An amp, just out of the box, with zero hours, should be replaced by the company if it's defective, NOT sent for repair. It's ridiculous.

If it was a new car and the turn signal was broken, you're most likely not going to get a whole different car. They would fix the turn signal, right? You can't exactly call that a 'lemon'.

A major function, especially such a selling point, is not comparable to a "turn signal". That would be akin to a pilot light.... ya' think? But as is usually the case, if it had been "their" amp that was defective, it would be a different story.

But exchange vs repair isn't. Fender's warranty has always just been a guarantee of repairing defective products. (With the exception of replacement at Fender's discretion if the cost of repairs would exceed the value of the product.)

When I was young, most retailers had "all sales are final" policies. No returns, no exchanges, and if it broke while you were taking it home from the store, you had to take it to a repair shop.

Many warranties still explicitly say you can't return defective goods to the place of purchase, that you have to go through the warranty repair process.

"Big box" stores like Walmart, Best Buy, and Guitar Center introduced the idea of liberal return/exchange policies. Many smaller retailers adopted similar policies to stay competitive. But that's entirely the retailers' prerogative.

The retailer may go above and beyond Fender's warranty and exchange your defective amp. But Fender only promises to fix your amp -- there's nothing in the warranty about giving you the option of replacement.

I have to agree with Strayedstrater and Ghost here.

But I also have to say that 10 days for a reply is unacceptable. If I bought a car, and there was a problem with "anything", and it took 10 days to just get an answer, I'd be pissed.

Fender has long had a problem with QC. There are plenty of posts on the forum that attest to that.

My guitar has a " limited lifetime warranty". What does that mean? Once I read further, absolutely nothing. Electronics are only 1 year. Everything else is pretty well eliminated. Fret wear, nut wear, strings, and batteries. Damages to finishes or cracks, splitting or warps due to changes of temperature, humidity due to exposure or contact with sun,(contact with the sun? Pretty sure that would vaporize it.) I could go on, but it's pretty much pointless.

My point here is that Fender is going to cover their butt legally, and it sucks for you. I feel your pain, so to speak.

So, you have an amp that is made in China, it took 10 days just to get an answer, they have trouble keeping up with supply,( which is pretty much why any small dealer is not going to replace it, some of them don't even do repairs) who knows how long parts for repairs will take?

For about 100 bucks for a headphone amp and headphones they could have tested the line out of the amp before they assembled the chassis into a cabinet with a speaker. Yeah, it would take an extra 3 minutes to check. But they would rather "farm out" a repair to a service center than do it at the factory. In the end, it ends up costing them more.

Suppose you live in another country besides the U.S. or Canada? OMG, now you have to deal with the distributor. Who knows where you have to ship it to.

You're pretty much S.O.L., and that is why Fender loses sales. But the marketing goobs are collecting fat paychecks. They work for the largest maker of stringed instruments in the world, theoretically. Pretty sure Leo may be spinning in his grave.

I apologize for sounding harsh, but Fender is not totally without fault here, in my opinion. If I bought a car with a problem I wouldn't expect to wait 10 days for an answer, let alone a resolution. Perhaps a simple solution they could implement, if they weren't so "big".

I'm an old fart, and I miss the Fender of Leo's time. Yes, he wasn't beyond pinching a penny. You might even say he was so tight he squeaked when he walked. But he always had the musician in mind when he made decisions related to his products.

+1000, Vinyl.

I recollect the "old days" when you'd go into a guitar shop and the proprietor would have signs and banners everywhere indicating their franchised affiliation with this or that brand of gear and every Fender sign I ever saw had the phrase "SALES & SERVICE" beneath the corporate logo. Whatever it was, if it was Fender and they sold it, they could also repair it. Looks like the 'old' Fender is officially dead and buried.

:(

I don't get the pilot light analogy.

You guys are so spoiled... down in here in Costa Rica we don't get any of this.

If your amp is busted it will mean a nightmare of months and months to get it repaired, if ever...

Even if the amp isn't busted and you want to just return it, practically impossible.

Anyway, seems to be things are shifting a little towards a better customer service, but that's why I test every feature at the store to make sure everything is working as supposed, as returning something isn't an option... not a good one at least.

You probably don't have direct support for thousands of other products too because you do not live anywhere close to where the manufacturers operate. I wonder how easy it is to get support for Fender products in Syria.
