That's always a possibility but I'm betting that FMIC is waiting to see how the first two releases do in the marketplace before committing further resources to develop the product line.

That's the first thing I mentioned to Brad in a private e-mail. I'm thinking a mid-year blackface edition from 1966.

I like the way you think arjay. I have my 65 twin and allen accomplice, but still have the jones for a vibrolux. do I need it? probably not. but now that the kids are gone and I head towards retirement, its time to treat myself...and its also cheaper than the 2020 corvette I had my eyes on.

That's because it takes more talent to play bass. Plus we are extremely important to the well being of F.M.I.C.

Basses are important to FMIC.

But they've never really dominated the bass amp market. At least not the way the TR and DR have been upper tier guitar amps for over 50 years.

The Studio Bass was only made for a few years. It has some dedicated fans but they sell for $700~800 -- not a huge demand.

Which Bassman? The recent big tube one is probably the best yet for bass, but it hasn't been around long enough to be a classic.

Fender bass amp models come and quickly go because the sales never light up. Many are great sounding and durable, but none of them have sold big numbers continuously for 50 years straight.
-----------------------

PS-400 might make more sense. Imagine that tone, that power, that look, without $300 tube changes, a quarter of the weight, and without needing 3 cabs (but supporting 3 cabs if you want).
----------------
Edited to nitpick -- yes the TR and DR were briefly dropped and replaced with updated models. But that was screwy marketing. The demand never dropped -- it was strong enough to call for reissues.

That's the way I see it. If you look at Woodstock and all the other big-draw arena acts of the '70s, what did you see? You saw SVT's, Acoustic 370's, and Sunn Coliseum's. Fender was notably absent most of the time (I'm dismissing the PS400 because it was temperamental, expensive, and awkward to load and haul). Fender had their chance at producing some credible bass rigs when they tried to resurrect the Sunn line a few years back but the effort was doomed due to lackluster corporate commitment and an apparent insistence that all of Sunn's original design philosophy be deliberately ignored.

If FMIC wants to stick a toe back into the bass-amp waters they better be damn sure of how much they want the attempt to succeed because history is NOT on their side.

I know were all having a bit of fun with this discussion but the fact is, there is room for everyone in music. Keyboard players, bassists, percussionists, guitarists......hell, everybody. We need each other and nothing changes that.

If Fender wants to take a bite out of the bass apple with an updated version of a vintage rig, I'd recommend that they adapt the new Tone Master technology to a re-issue of one of the "Cadillac" amps from the '60s, that being the Sunn 200S. The speaker enclosure would still be large and bulky but stuffed with neodymium 15's it would be substantially lighter. And the tubeless chassis would run cooler and -- probably -- more dependably than the original 2 x 6550 platform. Just don't fit the front panel with 1-10 controls -- Sunn's knobs started with "0".

To me the obvious place to go with the Tonemaster line is the Super Reverb. I have played and loved the Super for more years than I want to admit. However because of it's weight a lot of guys in my age group, me included, would no longer have any interest in leaving the house with one. Can you imagine a 35lb Super Reverb? Hope it happens.

Shh......we're trying to con Fender into building a Vibrolux Reverb TM. If they bite (and the amp proves to be popular) then we'll shoot for the Super Reverb. Got it?
