Now had the amp for about a month, love it more than ever. I hauled out my prized '65 Gibson ES-335 this week and fired up the Tone Master Twin. Now, when I got the guitar new back in '65 my amp at the time was a '65 Vibrolux Reverb. This was like old home week. The two are a match made in heaven. I get the same sort to response but bigger due to the two 12's and the added middle control. And being able to drive the amp into that great breakup at a reasonable volume with those old hum buckers just sounds magic. I also use a '51 Nocastser Relic a lot and I'm really loving that match up as well. Every time I go down to the studio and see the thing sitting there I smile. And I still pick it up as a reality check every time, can't resist. I consider this one money well spent.

Likely PAF's. I had a pair in my '64 SG Standard. It doesn't get much sweeter than that.

Glad to hear the TWTM is working out well.

I've had a Tone Master Deluxe Reverb for three months now. Its one of my favorite amps. I've got a Princeton reverb and a Blues Jr. The Tone Master is right up there with them.

After all the eggs that FMIC has laid over the past several years, I'm really hopeful that the T/M's will be the home run that Fender so desperately needs.

Rawk on, Hexnut!

I know what you mean arjay. I 've been playing fenders since 1962. I remember when they had a much smaller selection of guitars and amps, but every one was a winner. it seemed to change in the late 60's with those weird looking solid state amps. now look at them. it would be impossible to find a place that had 1 of every strat or tele to play so you could see what you like best. add to that, the store I got my first fender thru stopped carrying the brand years ago because of what they would have to buy. the store has been there since '46, and i'm looking at buying a g&l or reverend from them for my next guitar.

as far as amps, i'm happy with my '71 blackfaced twin and allen accomplice jr. 2 handwired amps that are reliable and easy to work on.

i actually have a custom built strat i bought from my amp tech. who built it for himself. when he worked on my twin ,this was the guitar i played thru it. i loved it, and he later decided to sell it to me at a good price. walnut body and neck, schaller parts that were aged at the schaller factory, and '54 pickups in it. i love it, and as far as i know, theres not another one like it. once i get things together, i 'll post some pics.

Had my Tone Master Twin for 4 months now and the magic is still there. This thing sounds great noodling by myself, wonderful in a band mix, and works well with pedals. This is a great solution for all my needs and the lightweight is like a huge bonus. My Strat, Nocaster, and '65 335 all sound fantastic through it. I still think it is brilliantly done. The reverb seems to be generous but I have found that when working with a band what I thought was a little too much reverb turns out to be just enough. The tremolo sounds fantastic. Am still considering purchasing the Deluxe version as well for backups and house party jams as a 2nd amp. Can't wait to see what is next in this line from Fender. My personal vote is for a reissue of the brown Vibro Verb.

Glad you're back, HDD!

We're actually hoping for a TM version of the Vibrolux Reverb but a 6G16 would be just about as nice.

I mentioned it to Brad in a private e-mail. Not sure it'll happen but at least the idea may get some traction.

Well here we are, a little over 3 months in. There are 12 threads in this subforum and 2 of those were started by Fender staff. Seems like a good product, but there is very little "buzz" about it. I wonder what is at work here?

A few theories:

1. There is a very small niche for this amp since the "tube snobs" are turned off by the digital aspect and the "digital people" are turned off by the limited interface

2. It is not priced appropriately

3. Fender has damaged their reputation in the digital amp world by ...
a) Not standing by their products when they have hardware issues (Mustang V1 and now Mustang GT)
b) Repeatedly not supporting their half-baked software
c) Shortening their warranty on products that have more failure points than a typical SS or tube amp

4. Competitors have higher or similar quality products for a lower price

Thoughts?

Some validity to your points, ghost.

What Fender needs is several high-visibility champions to give the line some professional cachet -- players like Joe Bonamassa, Vince Gill, Robert Cray, etc. Artists already established as Fender amp fans but normally associated with tube platforms.

That's a great suggestion. Gotta figure the LAB Series L5 benefitted from a heavy hitter like BB King using it onstage.

Over on The Gear Page, there’s a several-thousand-post thread with lots of very satisfied users, and a couple of Fender people (including Rick Heims) posting in it regularly. And apparently Fender has some Nashville cats using the amps as their gigging standard platform. From all indications, the amps are flying off the shelves. I suspect we see a new marketing campaign emerge from NAMM.
