I play classical guitar, but am new to electric guitar, and my knowledge is limited to some online search.
I have been using Amplitube4 for modeling, but the thing has a lot of noise and I have not been able to get rid of the noise completely. So, decided to spend some money and buy an amp, hoping it would not have noise (?).

Have been contemplating between GT40 and GT100. I will use it at home only, and my wife doesn't like to hear my plaing  , so basically it will be either with headphone or on a low volume. I understand for me a GT40 may be good enough, but am concerned about some poor reviews blaming GT40 for being boxy, needing adjustment, etc. I don't want to have to deal with these things. I don't want to have to adjust things to get a better sound, since I have been wasting couple of months now on Amplitube. I can afford extra $100 for a GT100 if needed.

Which one do you recommend? Why? Please give as much details as possible, that helps.

Thank you so much

I never heard these amps.
Gt 40 specs : 2 X 6,5 inches speaker, small cab :(

GT10 : 1 X12 inches speaker, bigger cab :D
I'll go for the GT100

By the time you have the volume down to a whisper, any "boxyness" isn't going to matter. Might as well just get the GT40 and use the headphones.

GT40. No reason to get the 100 for you. And forget about reviews saying boxiness. If you crank it maybe, but for your use thats the last thing u will be doing.

I would however consider checking out the newer LT series rather then the 40. They are even better for your purposes and since u seem to not want to spend time tweaking thats what those are designed for,....plug and ply. Granted, u will never get as good a sound w/o tweaking a lot when it comes to modelers but the LTs are supposedly designed with presets that sound decent w/o tweaking unlike the 100 who's presets are wacky as hell and just to show what you can do with insane amounts of effects and such.

I have a GT40, which I am very happy with. It’s my “bedroom” practice amp, and took over the job from a still-wonderful Yamaha THR-10C. For what you describe, it will be just fine. The “boxiness” nonsense came from some flawed very early reviews; I’ve certainly never had that problem, and I’ve had a GT40 ever since they came out.

Agree with ozcad that you might think about the LT25 or LT50, but be advised they don’t have Bluetooth and therefore can’t connect wirelessly to the Tone app; any patch editing is done on the amp itself or (with the upcoming Tone 3.0) via a USB connection to a Mac or Windows computer. You may not care, but you should be aware as part of your decision.

Thank you for your responses.
I checked on LT25, it seems it does not allow downloading presets from Fender Tone, is it correct?
A main reason I'm looking into GT series is the versatility offered through Fender Tone.
I actually do not mind tweaking around and learning stuff, what I hate is "noise" which is what I have been experiencing with Amplitube4 modeling software.

Is there a background noise or noise at the end of chords, etc with GT series that we have to adjust with noise reduction?

No, it doesn't. Sounds like the amplitude has lousy NR thats not switchable. The GTs and the GTX have switchable NR with several degrees of reduction and no, i haven't noticed issues like you mentioned using it or without it. But the NR in the GT's seems to work well enough that i use it at times, and i always hated NR till now. It really works well w/o degrading the tone. Good for stages where theres a lot of electrical noise.

Best is to test drive both amps in same store, you'll hear wich one you like.
