So a few months back we saw the Mustang LT25 now today we have the Mustang GTX with Tone 3.0 https://shop.fender.com/en-US/guitar-amplifiers/contemporary-digital/mustang-gtx50/2310600000.html.

What does that mean for the GT line?

Will, there be future updates to the GT? The 2.0 update was nice, but it was more than a year ago. With the LT25 and the GTX the price points seem really tight with the GT in the middle. Is the GT end-of-lifed? (Note: I'm not complaining, just asking. I'm not thinking that I should be able to buy a $250 digital amp and get updates for 20 years.)

I too have the GT40 and footswitch and have had it now for over a year without any problems whatsoever.

However, the new GTX certainly looks a little better, so it looks as though the GT users were the proverbial guinea pigs for Fender who have learned from the mistake made with the GT line.....I for one think they have moved on and there will be NO more updates....but as long as mine continues to work i am happy. The new footswitch does look good though lol

I hope you're wrong! Hope they give us a few more updates, at least!

I doubt it. Do you really believe they would try and improve the GT further when they are releasing the GTX when we have not had an update for 1.25 years ? I think fender has become way too predictable to think that would happen. Lets just hope they fixed the dropout issue, the buggy knob acceleration and footswitch/EXP pedal bugs. If they didn't it will certainly be the death knell of the mustang line.

The GTX has the potential to be great but whether fender was aware enough of how badly they screwed the GT up to make sure the GTX is what the GT should have been remains to be seen. 2 things i see so far that are not good....same impossible spacing between the footswitch buttons (if i were 5'1" with size 5 shoes maybe it would be ok) and apparently the same speaker according to the model designation, even tho fender is calling it new. Again, we shall see. Neither of those things matter to me because i have a 4 ohm celestion 100 in my GT that would go into the GTX should i decide to risk my $$$ once again, and I only need 3 buttons on the FS so i would use only 1, 3 and 5 and 2/4 would be assigned to dummy effects i'd leave off and put collars over 2 and 4 to keep from activating them. Of course if there was space between them in the first place and the buttons were assignable to any effect no matter where in the chain, then i could use all 5 and have a couple rarely used effects. But u can't have it all so just being usable with no critical compromises like i deal with in my GT would be acceptable.

Do local shops usually clearance off old inventory in these cases? Just curious, haven’t followed product updates before.

Wondering if old stock on gt40-200 will now get liquidated quickly...

Just ordered the lt25 the day before they announced this. Now I see the lt50 is going to have a desktop version of Fender tone. Any word on if this will work with the lt25??

Well, those with a GT are in luck ! The firmware from the GTX will be available for the GT and the new 7 button switch will also work with it. That from a youtube namm video. The big question then at least for those of us with the issue is will the GTX also suffer from the dropout bug. If not or if your GT doesn't do that, then the question becomes is the GTX just a new cabinet? That may be the case but there may also be power amp tweaks from things i heard in videos or read and possible other hardware improvements. But it's looking like if you have a GT you will soon have a GTX in a GT cabinet.

Hard to say but certainly not till the GTX is released at the earliest. I would think not till long after as to not impede GTX initial sales. But then again maybe this is being done out of confidence that the GTX is really that much better even compared to the GT with the coming update. Can't wait to know the truth in that regard. I DO much prefer the new look tho. Always hated the GT's modern non guitar amp look and cr@ppy grill cloth that looks like they used black T shirt material.

Actually, as a great example of how tastes differ, I think the GTX looks cheesey and love the look of the GT's. I think the GT's were a breath of fresh air in terms of look. Oh well. LOL

Thats cool, to each his own. But they no doubt made the change because a lot more people didn't like the GT. It's been mentioned often at many forums. I do however prefer one thing about the GT cab....the controls on the front edge instead of the rear. The GTX will be hard to see when tilted back. But i like the look infinitely more.

Me too - i actually prefer the look of GT as it is a little different - to each their own......the main thing I dont like about the GT is the lack of the middle button. I know its accessible via the main know - but seriously it should have been there.
good news on the firmware and new pedal to....its the firmware i am more interested in

You must have the GT40. The 100 and 200 have a mid knob on the front panel.

As mentioned, Fender says the new firmware will be coming to the rest of the GT line. I suspect we’ll see it as soon as the GTXes are out; I think doing so won’t cannibalize GTX sales. The only scenario I can see where it would be delayed is if the firmware test team is completely consumed with testing the GTXes and so the firmware won’t get qualified for the GTs until later.

However, there were two other tidbits in the videos so far that indicate Fender is listening to its customers.

First a big one for me: the Tone app in the videos is clearly being run on an iPad (you can see the iPad mounted in a stage stand on the desk in the left side of the videos), and the mirrored screen behind Rick is clearly the iPad screen - and it’s a NATIVE iPad app, not a scaled iPhone app! This has been my most-wished-for Tone app feature since the beginning.

Second, if you look at Fender’s product page for the LT50, it says straight out that you can use Tone 3.0 on your desktop Mac or PC to control the amp. If we presume the GT/GTX will have the same capability - which seems a reasonable assumption - then all of you wanting a desktop Tone app are getting your wish too.

Looking forward to the new firmware and app!
