Hi,
I am tempted to buy a Mustang GT40 as my first amplifier (I play classical guitar, but have decided to learn some electric).
Can somebody with experience please tell, do we need an audio interface in order to record quality sound with GT40 or it can deliver quality sound directly to the computer? I will likely be using Garageband.
Thank you

The problem is not the sound. The problem is latency. Latency refers to the slight delay between when you physically play a note on the instrument and when the note is "heard" by the DAW (digital audio workstation).

Having a decent quality external interface can either shorten or eliminate that latency.

So IMO:

If you only want to record one track, you don't really need the external interface. If you want to multi-track, you can get the job done, but you will always be fighting that delay. I have done recordings that way that were acceptable, but it was a challenge and not a 'comfortable' way to record at all.

Here is an example of a recording I made without an external interface (using a Mustang III v1). This was achieved by making it so I could not hear the live guitar in headphones - only from the amp speaker. Then after it was recorded I had to trim some time off the individual track to push it into sync. Like I said, it's a challenge but it can be done. The same principle will apply to a Mustang GT amp.

Wow, that was nice.
Thank you for sharing.
I will be recording only guitar, one track.
